The woman who owns this home? I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
Ever since Jacob hired Victoria, my life had been worse than that of a servant.
After marriage, Jacob forbade me from working. I even had to submit a request to this housekeeper just to
get money for sanitary pads.
Knowing Victoria, she wouldn’t let this go. I stepped in front of my in-laws, trying to reason with her.
“Victoria, these are Jacob’s parents. His mother is severely allergic to shellfish. If he finds out you served her
seafood salad, he will not let this go.”
Victoria merely smirked dismissively.
“Let’s be clear, Mrs. Pearson. Marrying Jacob doesn’t mean your whole… small-town extended family is
suddenly welcome here whenever they please.”
“And these two have the audacity to introduce themselves as his parents? Have they no dignity?”
Her face darkened as she turned to the guards.
“Well? Don’t just stand there. See that Mr. Pearson’s… distinguished guests enjoy the crab dip I set out for
them.”
The guards obeyed only Victoria. Immediately, they pulled my in-laws from behind me, forcing their heads
down toward the plates.
Both in their fifties, they were no match for the guards’ strength. Within moments, their faces and clothes were streaked with oily dressing and chunks of seafood.
“Have you lost your mind, Victoria?!” I shouted, my voice breaking. “Whatever games you play with me, I’ve
tolerated them! But these are Jacob’s parents! Call them off now!”
I rushed forward to pull the guards away, but Victoria had others restrain me.
She leaned close, her voice a venomous whisper only I could hear.
“What difference does it make that you married up, you little country mouse? You’re still nothing in this
house.”
“Today, you’re going to watch your so-called parents learn their place, the hard way.”
Then she barked at the guards again, “Do I need to repeat myself? I said make them eat. So make them eat.”
“And give her mother an extra helping. Isn’t she the one with the shellfish sensitivity? Let’s put my nutritional science degree to the test. Some allergies just need a stronger approach.”
