Chapter 27
The smell of antiseptic filled the intensive care unit, accompanied by the regular beeping of monitors.
Felix struggled for days in an endless darkness of excruciating pain. Finally, a faint ray of light pierced his consciousness.
His heavy eyelids struggled to open, his blurry vision slowly coming into focus.
The first thing he saw was the pale sunlight filtering through the window, and then, the quiet figure sitting by his bedside.
Stella.
She was just sitting there, wearing a simple cream–colored turtleneck sweater. Her profile was to him, her gaze fixed on the window, her expression calm. evealing neither joy nor sorrow.
The sunlight outlined her clear, soft silhouette, as if coating her in a faint golden light.
n that instant, Felix felt as if time had turned back, to those quiet, warm afternoons before they had experienced all the ugliness and betrayal.
His heart felt as if it had been struck, a mix of sorrow and ecstatic joy that almost brought him to tears.
He moved his chapped lips, trying to speak, but only a hoarse gasp escaped.
The small sound startled Stella.
he turned her head, her eyes meeting his. There was no surprise, no excitement, just the look one gives an ordinary patient who has just woken up.
he picked up the glass of water from the bedside table, dipped a cotton swab in it, and moistened his dry lips. Her movements were practiced and natural, yet arried a clear, polite distance.
his small act of care was like a key, violently unlocking the floodgates of regret that had been dammed up in Felix’s heart for so long.
in immense wave of emotion, like a bursting dam, washed away all his reason and pride.

Stella Stella “his breath was shallow, his voice broken, yet held an almost obsessive urgency. His eyes were fixed on her, as if trying to etch her image into ds very soul. “I’m I’m sorry I was stupid. I was blind I was a bastard.”
Tears streamed uncontrollably from his red rimmed eyes, running down his pale cheeks and soaking the pillowcase.
This man, who had dominated the business world and never bowed his head to anyone, was now as vulnerable as a lost child
I was wrong. I really know I was wrong he repeated, his consciousness seeming to fale as he was lost in tnumense grief and illusion. If I could do it over f I could just have one more chance. I would never never betray you stella I wouldn’t look at anyone else I would never let you suffer the slightest wrong again
His voice was choked with sobs, filled with endless regret and a desperate plea.
This was perhaps the confession he had rehearsed countless times during his days of unconsciousness, finally pouring out, heedless of everything, in this moment of lucidity.
Stella listened quietly, not struggling, not responding.
His grip on her wrist was painful, but she only frowned slightly, her calm gaze resting on Felix’s face, which was contorted with emotion, watching him as he wept and babbled incoherently.
