He Gave Her Strawberries, Gave Me Hives (Ford and Sylvia) novel Chapter 17

Sylvia stared at him, eyes wide with horror, her voice trembling. Ford

Ford opened his mouth to speak, but instead, he coughed up a mouthful of blood.

His arms went limp, and he slumped to the ground, still murmuring, Don’tdon’t be scaredit’s okay

Panic rising, Sylvia scrambled up. Ford! Ford Holloway!

That’s when she saw itan iron rebar sticking straight out of his back.

she shook uncontrollably and turned to see the construction workers standing around, staring in shock.

Her eyes red with fury, she screamed, What are you staring at? Call 911!

Someone frantically dialed emergency services.

Ford was rushed to the ER, and Chase arrived shortly after.

Chase hurried through the hospital corridors, heading straight for her.

Sylvia was slumped in a chair outside the operating room, her hands covered in dried blood.

Seeing her huddled in the corner, Chase couldn’t hold back. He rushed over and pulled her into a tight embrace.

His voice trembled with relief. Thank God you’re okay.

Sylvia couldn’t hold it in anymore and broke down sobbing quietly.

Chase held her close, letting her cry it out. When she finally calmed down, he led her to a sink and gently washed the blood from her

ingers.

Watching him intently cleaning her fingertips, looking down with such focus, Sylvia slowly came back to reality. Her voice was aspy. Thanks. I’m okay now.

Chase dried her hands before looking up at her.

Seeing her swollen, red eyes, he said softly, Don’t worry. I’ve called in the best specialists. Ford is going to be fine.

Sylvia looked at him, eyes red. Did you find out where that rebar came from?

It felt wrong. Why would an accident happen the exact moment they arrived?

And it had been aimed straight at her.

Chase nodded. We detained the people who were near the incident site.

I interrogated them. We suspect this woman did it on purpose.

Chapter 17

He pulled up a video on his phone and showed it to Sylvia.

In the surveillance footage, a woman was lurking on a high platform. When she saw Sylvia and Ford, she shoved the rebar down, aiming right for Sylvia.

So it wasn’t an accident. It was attempted murder!

Even though the woman was wearing a hard hat and mask, Sylvia recognized her instantly.

Lyla! It’s her!

Chase frowned. You know her?

Sylvia nodded. She’s the woman Ford cheated on me with.

Sylvia never expected Lyla to sneak onto a construction site.

Chase signaled to his bodyguards nearby. Moments later, they dragged Lyla in.

Lyla was still wearing construction gear. When she saw Sylvia, her face twisted in rage. Sylvia, you lucky bitch! Why wasn’t it you

who got hurt?

Sylvia snapped. She rushed forward and slapped Lyla hard across the face.

Shut your mouth! No one is a bigger bitch than you!

You provoked me time and again, and before I could even settle the score, you dare try to kill me?

Lyla, you wronged me! You wrecked my marriage and stole my husband. What right do you have to hate me?

Lyla glared at Sylvia with bloodshot eyes full of jealousy and hate. What right?

Why are you so lucky, Sylvia? I’m just as good as you! Why do you get to be the CEO’s wife while I’m just a secretary?!

The moment I saw Ford, I swore I’d steal him from you!

I had almost succeeded! But I didn’t expect him to still be hung up on you. And then you, you bitch, you sent all my dirt to his parents and ruined everything!
