Sylvia stared in shock, then rushed forward to try and lift her up.
But Mrs. Holloway refused to stand, sobbing. “Sylvia, I treated you well while you were part of the family. I know Ford wronged you,
but he’s dying…”
“Please, for my sake, for the sake of the years you spent with him, go see him. Just one last time.”
“I’m begging you! Please! Just grant him this last wish.”
Mrs. Holloway started to bow her head to the floor again.
Sylvia held her back firmly. “Stop. I’ll go.”
Chase walked out of his office, saw the scene, and offered, “I’ll drive you.”
Sylvia nodded.
In the car, Mrs. Holloway cried, “I wanted to take him back home for treatment, but he said it’s hopeless and refused to leave. He
insisted that if he dies, he wants to die near you.”
“The back injury wasn’t fatal, but he just gave up. The wound got infected, and we almost lost him multiple times…”
Mrs. Holloway cried harder, her voice filled with helplessness and blame.
“Now he realizes what he lost! Where was this regret before?”
“If it weren’t for that Lyla, you two wouldn’t be here!”
Sylvia didn’t reply.
She hated Lyla too, but she figured without Lyla, there would have been someone else.
Some people just aren’t meant to make it to the end.

Badia walked into the room and saw Ford lying in the bed.
inken, looking completely lifeless.
aze, eyes half closed, barely holding on.
Mrs. Holloway cried out, “Ford, look who’s here.”
Ford slowly turned his head. The moment he saw Sylvia, a faint light returned to his eyes.

The room cleared, leaving just the two of them.
ylvia walked over slowly and sat by the bed.
They looked at each other, and Ford gave a nervous, weak smile. “Sorry. Do I look scary?”
ylvia looked at him through tears, unable to speak.
Ford seemed panicked and reached out with a trembling hand to wipe her tears.
He stared at her and started talking about the past–the sweet little moments they had long buried in their hearts.
for once, they talked peacefully, avoiding the betrayal and the impending death.
Eventually, Ford’s voice grew quieter and quieter until he had no strength left to speak.
