Is this enough?” Her voice was devoid of any warmth.
Melody wiped away non–existent tears, her voice still holding a sob that couldn’t hide her triumph. “Sera… you’re not reluctant, are you? After all, this was Jam’s token of affection for you.”
Seraphina wearily closed her eyes, her gaze falling on Liam’s face. “Liam, are you satisfied now?”
Jam met her gaze, and the absolute coldness in her eyes made his heart inexplicably seize up.
When had Seraphina ever looked at him like that?
He was about to say something, but his eyes unintentionally swept over the clear, bloody scratch on the side of her neck.
le subconsciously let go of Melody’s arm and strode over to Seraphina. His brows knitted together as he reached out with a pained expression to gently touch he scratch. “How could you be so careless? Don’t you know how to take care of yourself?”
For a split second, Seraphina was dazed..
That tone, that gesture–it was so much like the old Liam, the one who held her in the palm of his hand and spoiled her endlessly.
However, the daze lasted only a few seconds.
Seeing Liam’s reaction, a sinister glint flashed in Melody’s eyes. Then, her body went limp, and she fainted dead away.
Melody!” Liam immediately pulled his hand back. Without giving Seraphina another thought, he quickly bent down, scooped up Melody, and left without a backward glance, leaving Seraphina standing there all alone.
And that fleeting illusion of returning to the past had long since vanished without a trace.
he slowly lowered her eyes, hiding all emotion, then turned and walked out of the hospital room, step by step, to discharge herself.
Back at the villa, Seraphina pushed open her bedroom door, and everything that met her eyes was a reminder of him.
‘irst, she walked to the nightstand, where a slightly worn teddy bear sat.
t was something Liam had bought as a child with the allowance he’d saved for a long time, saying he wanted the bear to keep her company in his place. Over he years, the bear’s fur had become a little worn, but she had always kept it.
gainst the wall stood a huge astronomical telescope.
After learning she loved to look at the stars, Liam had spent months researching and custom–ordering it. For countless nights, they had looked through that elescope together, planning their future under the brilliant river of stars.
inally, she opened the bottom drawer of the nightstand, where a photo album lay.
he opened the album. The very first picture was a photo of her and Liam when they were eighteen. In it, they were both smiling radiantly, their eyes full of ope for the future.
Because it was taken the day Liam had officially confessed his feelings for her, she treasured it dearly and had placed it at the very front of the album.
he had once thought this was forever, but now, it was clear it was nothing more than an illusion, like a flower in a mirror or the moon reflected in water.
she closed the album and threw it into the trash can, along with all the sweetness and heartache of the past.
Looking at the large bags of “trash” piling up on the floor, the once warm and elegantly decorated room now seemed barren. And Seraphina’s heart felt as if a piece of it had been hollowed out, too.
