Chapter 13

When she next awoke in the hospital, Melody’s hand was in a thick cast. The doctor diagnosed her with a comminuted wrist fracture, even after recovery, it would never be as flexible as before.
Lying in the hospital bed, staring at her immobilized hand, she finally broke down completely, wailing hysterically, “Liam Blackwood! You’re a monster! You‘ get what’s coming to you!”
“Is that so?” Liam sat in the chair by her bed, calmly adjusting his sleeves. “I forgot to fell you. All those good deeds of yours–I had them all leaked to the
media.”
Hearing this, Melody shot up and fumbled for her phone with her good hand.
The screen lit up, and headline after headline about her blazed in glaring red. Clicking on them revealed a comment section flooded with curses. She had been nailed to a pillar of shame, subjected to the scorn of the entire internet.
Melody snapped her head up, her crimson eyes fixed on him, her voice hoarse with rage. “Liam! Are you trying to drive me to my death?!”
Liam watched her lose control, a cold smile forming on his lips. “Everything you did to Sera–even returning it to you a thousand times over wouldn’t be enough.”
“I was forced into it by Seraphina! She deserved it!” Melody shrieked hysterically, her face contorted with madness. “Her family is so rich, everyone fawns over her. They all praise her for sponsoring my education, but behind the scenes? Did the cold remarks and ridicule ever stop for a single day? She’s just a rich girl
who was bored and looking for entertainment. And I was her entertainment! Who the hell wants her charity?!”
Hearing this, Liam’s pupils contracted, the coldness on his face instantly replaced by shock. He stared at Melody, stunned, as if seeing her for the first time. “You
actually think that way?”
He had never imagined that Melody’s malice towards Seraphina was so twisted that she could interpret an act of pure kindness in such a despicable way. The thought was utterly absurd.
“What else? You think everyone is like you, fooled by her facade?!”
Her words angered him, and his brow furrowed. “Melody, it’s your own twisted mind that makes you think everyone is just like you! When Sera sponsored you, she never expected anything in return, and she certainly wasn’t ‘looking for entertainment“!”
Like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, Melody’s voice shot up. “That’s just an excuse! She just enjoys the feeling of being superior!”
“You really continue to surprise me…”
‘And who are you to pretend to be so devoted?” Melody suddenly cut him off with a shrill, crazed laugh. “You say you’re getting revenge on me for Seraphina, out didn’t you hurt her just as much?! You’re just like me–we’re both murderers who destroyed Seraphina’s life!”
Liam’s gaze turned icy, his voice cutting like a blade. “I was just temporarily blinded by you! I said harsh things to her, I did things that hurt her. I will find her, and I will make it up to her!”
But Melody reacted as if she’d heard the funniest joke in the world, laughing until tears streamed down her face, “Liam, do you really think Seraphina will orgive you? The rift between you two was carved open by your own hands long ago! All I did was speed things up!”
She paused, a vicious glint in her eye. “Besides, even if I was wrong, so what? Did Seraphina ever get your love? In the end, didn’t she just…”
‘Shut up!” Liam roared. The pressure around him became terrifyingly low. He looked at Melody’s face, twisted with madness, and felt nothing but disgust.
Saying another word would be a waste.
He didn’t spare her another glance. He turned, straightened his back, and strode out of the hospital room, leaving her crazed ranting completely behind him.
The door slammed shut with a bang, separating two worlds.
Melody slumped back onto the bed, the madness in her eyes instantly replaced by emptiness.

he slowly lay back down, her unfocused gaze fixed on the ceiling as scenes from the past flooded her mind uncontrollably.
he remembered her childhood, always living in Seraphina’s shadow, never getting any attention no matter how hard she tried. She remembered all the traps he had meticulously planned to steal Liam, and the fleeting satisfaction she felt every time she saw Seraphina get hurt. But after that satisfaction came as even eeper emptiness.
he thought that by destroying Seraphina’s life, she could fill the hole in her own heart. But it wasn’t until this moment, with Liam’s disgusted gaze upon her, tat she realized she had destroyed not only Seraphina, but herself as well.
er heart felt like it was being squeezed tightly by an invisible hand, the pain making it impossible to breathe.
id she win? It seemed like she had, but at the same time, it seemed like she had won nothing at all.
