Chapter 21
Outside the apartment, Liam slowly squatted down, covering his face with his hands as suppressed sobs escaped from between his fingers.
The late night wind was cold, chilling him to the bone.
But he didn’t leave. Instead, he leaned against the old locust tree at the foot of Seraphina’s apartment building and stood watch for the entire night.
For the next few days, Liam came every day.
n the morning, when Seraphina left, she would see him standing there stubbornly, his face etched with fatigue, his eyes bloodshot.

The cold rain streamed down from his hair and clothes, yet he stood like an unfeeling statue, his gaze locked firmly on the window of Seraphina’s apartment.
He was waiting–waiting for an impossible miracle, waiting for her to soften, waiting for her to come downstairs and give him just one look.
Jpstairs, Seraphina stood by the window, looking at the figure being consumed by the storm below. She quickly averted her gaze, sat back down at her desk. and poured all her energy into her designs.
he had once placed all her love and trust in him, but for Melody’s sake, he had shattered it all to pieces.
His repentance now came far too late.
he next morning, the rain had stopped, and a faint light was breaking through the sky.
iam finally couldn’t hold on any longer. His vision went black, and he collapsed.
