Chapter 13
Alistair led Lorelei through a long corridor in the estate towards another, more secluded villa.
As they descended a spiral staircase and stepped into the basement entrance, the thick, cloying smell of blood hit them.
Lorelei’s face paled, and she stopped in her tracks instinctively.
Alistair keenly sensed her fear.
His warm, large hand immediately enveloped her cold, trembling one, his grip steady and firm.
Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
He shielded her protectively as they walked down the steps.
n the dim light, in an iron cage in the center of the basement, were several men in tattered clothes, covered in wounds.
Hearing footsteps, they looked up in terror-
t was the men who had assaulted Lorelei that night!
The despair, humiliation, and pain of that night came rushing back, and Lorelei’s body began to shake uncontrollably.
Alistair held her trembling body closer, his warm palm gently stroking her back.
Lorelei, open your eyes. Look at them.”
Tell me,
how do you want to punish them? Do you want them dead, or do you want them to… wish they were dead?”
The men in the cage had lost all of their earlier arrogance. Like stray dogs, they were kowtowing and begging for their lives, tears and snot streaming down
heir faces.
Ms. Vaughn! Mercy, Ms. Vaughn!”
We were blind! We were wrong! Please, be the bigger person and let us go!”
orelei forced herself to calm down, taking a deep breath.
he closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, they were filled with cold resolution.
I want them to wish they were dead, and then I want them dead.”
learing this, Alistair was momentarily surprised, then burst into a loud laugh, filled with undisguised admiration and satisfaction.
Excellent! Spoken like the woman I’ve chosen! You’ve got guts!”
le then turned his head to his men standing by and ordered.
You all heard her? Do as Ms. Vaughn says.”
He held Lorelei close and walked steadily up the stairs, not looking back at the hellish scene.
Behind them, the sounds of horrific screams and the crack of a whip against flesh immediately followed.
Even after they had left the basement and were breathing the cool, fresh air outside again, Lorelei’s hands were still trembling slightly.
Not from fear, but from the thrill of vengeance.
Chapter 13
She stopped, looked up at the composed man beside her with slightly red rimmed eyes, her voice choked with emotion.
“Mr. Sterling thank you.
Alistair looked down at her, a hint of a smile in his deep eyes.
No need to be so formal”
