Rubbing her injured side, she made her way back to City Hall.

This time, Ford showed up in less than an hour.

He stormed up to her, radiating rage. You sued Lyla?

Are you crazy? I gave her a few small gifts and you’re suing her?

She’s just a kid and you scared her to tears!

Hitting her, suing herwhat happened to you? You’re becoming vicious!

Haven’t I given you enough money over the years? When did you become so cheap and mean?

Sylvia looked up at him, eyes redrimmed.

Two months ago, you bought me a bracelet for my birthday. Because she liked it, you bought her the exact same one. Cost: $100,000.

Last month, you brought back couple’s watches from your business trip. She wanted one, so she stole mine and replaced it with a fake. Value: $150,000.

And today, the anniversary gift you won at auctionyou gave it to her as an apology. Value: $280,000.

She pulled a long list from her bag, it unrolled from her fingertips all the way to the floor.

And all of this. It adds up to millions of dollars.

Tell me, Ford. What value does she bring to the company that requires millions of dollars in small giftsjust to keep her happy?

Ford looked at the receipt roll, his face twitching with embarrassment.

His tone softened. Okay, babe, look. I admit, I shouldn’t have given her your anniversary gift. She just really liked it and kept asking, so I

She cut him off mid sentence. That’s us. Let’s go.

Ford’s face turned stony. Sylvia, I’m practically begging you here. Do you have to be like this?

Sylvia crumpled the ticket in her hand and looked at him calmly. Once we’re divorced, you can buy her whatever you want.

You can play your naked games in bed or cuddle in the office, and no one will interrupt you.

Doesn’t that sound nice?

A hint of mockery touched the corner of her eye.

Or is it only fun for you and your little assistant if I’m the third wheel suffering in the middle?

Uncontrollable rage flashed across Ford’s face.

He kicked over a trash can and gritted his teeth. Fine! You want a divorce? You got it! Don’t think I can’t live without you!

They walked up to the clerk’s window together.

When the clerk asked for the reason, Ford scoffed before Sylvia could speak. Isn’t it obvious? Irreconcilable differences!

Sylvia paled slightly, then nodded calmly. Yes. Irreconcilable differences.

They filed the paperwork and received the notice for the thirtyday waiting period before the decree would be final.

Ford stormed out, his voice dripping with malice. Sylvia, thirty days is plenty of time for you to wake up and get your head straight.
