Chapter 6
Her vision swam in darkness. She touched her temple and her fingers came away wet with crimson blood.
Ford stared at her in shock. He instinctively started to let go of Lyla to go to her.
But Lyla clung to him tightly, crying out to Sylvia, “Sylvia, I was just trying to help you guys make up! How could you try to push me
lown the stairs?”
If Ford hadn’t caught me, I could have been disfigured or brain–damaged! How can you be so evil?”
The flicker of concern in Ford’s eyes vanished instantly.
He looked down at her coldly, his eyes filled with nothing but disappointment. “Sylvia, that’s instant karma. You deserved that fall.”
le scooped Lyla up, stepped right over Sylvia’s body, and stormed out.
Sylvia lay there in silence, watching his retreating back, then wept as she struggled to her feet.
she called an Uber to the hospital.

But she hadn’t been lying down for long when the door to her hospital room was kicked open.
Two massive men in black suits stood in the doorway.
Sylvia recognized them–they were Ford’s security detail.
She frowned. “What are you doing here?”

Sylvia frowned. “Ford, what kind of psycho game is this?”
Ford’s eyes were bloodshot, staring at her without a shred of warmth. “Sylvia, I never thought you could be this vicious!”
“You tried to hurt Lyla once, and even while you were in the hospital, you wouldn’t give up–you hired someone to push her down
these stairs!”
“She could have died! Do you understand that?”
Lyla wailed even louder, playing the victim perfectly. “Sylvia, I know you don’t like my jokes, but how could you do something so violent? Do you hate me that much?”
Sylvia clenched her fists, shaking with rage. “Ford, if she fell, it’s because she’s clumsy or unlucky!”
“I despise her, and yeah, I wouldn’t mind if she broke her neck, but I didn’t do this!”
She turned to leave, but the bodyguards blocked her path.
Sylvia spun back to Ford. “I said I didn’t do it! Tell them to back off!”
