Chapter 9
The sight of Desmond Hart carrying Stella Winslow into the hospital caused a massive commotion.
A crowd of people quickly gathered around the examination room, all of them filming with their phones.
t was the wedding day of the head of the Hart family, yet here he was, at the hospital, carrying another woman in his arms.
t didn’t take long for streamers and reporters to rush to the scene.
Doctor, how is she?” Desmond had eyes only for Stella, completely oblivious to the sea of onlookers staring at him.
Acute appendicitis. She needs surgery.”
Desmond, I don’t want surgery, I’m scared.” Stella cried, shaking her head desperately, refusing to go into the operating room.
t was only after Desmond promised to stay with her in the O.R. that she finally agreed to the surgery.
lefore going in, Desmond sent a quick text to Celeste.
Celeste, Stella needs surgery. I’m going to stay with her for a bit, but I promise I’ll be back before the ceremony starts.”
ust as he hit send, he heard Stella call his name. He quickly put his phone away and changed into a set of sterile scrubs, completely missing the “Message Failed
Send” notification.
Meanwhile, someone had already posted a video online of Celeste being left on the side of the road. More and more people began to speculate that Desmond
ad jilted his bride for Stella.
he topic started trending, one hashtag after another.
ome people thought Desmond was an ungrateful bastard, some thought Celeste got what she deserved, and others just commented that the relationships of the ich and famous were like a childish game.
Jesmond sat with Stella in the operating room, completely unaware of the storm brewing outside.
le stared at the unconscious Stella, and in a daze, it was as if he were seeing himself in the moments right after his own accident.
le was lying alone in a hospital bed, bound by some invisible force, unable to see or move, but able to hear the sounds of the outside world with perfect clarity
he Hart family had given up on him, Stella had abandoned him, and he was completely alone in the world.
in endless darkness had enveloped him, and a deep, primal fear that made his heart pound began to spread through him.
uddenly, a ray of light plerced the darkness, and with it appeared Celeste.
Desmond Hart, hi, I’m Celeste Reese, What a coincidence, both our first names have ‘es‘.”
Desmond Hart, don’t be scared. I’ll take care of you.”
‘Desmond Hart, they don’t want you, but I do.”
‘Desmond Hart, talked to the doctors. You can recover from this. I sold my house and my car. We’re going to go overseas for treatment”
‘Desmond Hart, we’ve known each other for a year now, so we’re pretty close. Is it okay if I start calling you by your first name from now on?”
“Desmond, there’s a fire! You have to get up! Get up, now!”
“Desmond, don’t be scared, I’ll carry you out. It doesn’t hurt, not at all. My skin is just a little burned. You won’t think I’m ugly later, will you?”

Chapter 9
Desmond, we’ve known each other for over two years now, and I’ve stolen more than two hundred kisses from you, so we’re very, very close. I’m going to start alling you Des. If you don’t say anything. I’ll take that as a yes!”
Des, you’ve been asleep for three years. It’s time to wake up!”
Des, I heard a retired specialist immigrated here. He’s the best at treating this kind of condition, but he’s a little eccentric. I swear, I’m going to get him to cure
ou.”
Des, today I made the last dish for the specialist, and he finally agreed to help you! You’re going to be okay soon!”
Des! You’re awake! You’re really awake!”
Jesmond tried to speak, his heart pounding with excitement, but no sound came out. Even the light before his eyes began to dim.
eleste’s figure grew blurrier and blurrier. He reached out to grab her, but his hand closed on empty air.
Jesmond’s body jolted, and his consciousness returned in a blinding flash.
le was lying in a hospital bed.
1st now, while he was in the operating room with Stella, he had passed out.
le glanced at the clock. There were only twenty minutes left until the wedding ceremony was supposed to start. He scrambled out of bed.
le had promised Celeste he would be at the wedding on time.
he moment Desmond stepped out of the room, he was mobbed by the reporters and streamers waiting outside.
Mr. Hart, who do you love, Celeste Reese or Stella Winslow?”
Did you leave Ms. Reese for Stella? Is the wedding still happening today? And who is the bride?”
barrage of questions was hurled at him. Desmond stopped in his tracks and shot a death glare at the cameras pointed in his face.
There has only ever been one Mrs. Hart, and that is Celeste Reese. She got out of the car so that I could bring Stella to the hospital first.” Desmond, who usually mored such questions, explained with uncharacteristic seriousness.
The wedding will proceed as planned, and the bride will be Celeste, and only Celeste.”
or some reason, the image of Celeste disappearing at the end of his dream flashed in his mind, and a strange sense of unease and dread washed over him.
le didn’t linger, quickening his pace toward the exit. He needed to get to the wedding venue and see Celeste as soon as possible.
eleste loved him so much, and she was so understanding. Surely she wouldn’t misunderstand him like these ignorant fools.
he more Desmond thought about it, the more flustered he became. He instinctively pulled out his phone to call Celeste.
The phone rang and rang, but no one picked up. His anxiety mounted.
le opened his text thread with Celeste, and the red exclamation point next to his last message instantly seared his eyes.
His hand trembled, and the phone nearly slipped from his grasp.
How could this be?
Celeste had blocked him?
She must have misunderstood.
Desmond broke into a run, practically sprinting to his car.
Every red light on the drive there was as glaring as that red exclamation mark, making his already anxious heart pound even faster.
He finally just floored it, blew through a red light, and sped toward the wedding venue.
