As soon as he finished speaking, he clearly heard Scarlett's laughter. It was a cold, mocking sound.
She forcefully shook off his hand.
"Yardley, you don't have to hold back your temper. You can play your games and use every trick in your book!"
"It's just a fight, isn't it? Since I've decided to get a divorce, I'm not afraid of anything! Bring it on. Do your worst!"
The light in Yardley's eyes gradually died out.
"Are you sure?"
"Scarlett, I'm giving you a chance right now! If you don't take it, don't come crying to me later!"
Scarlett stood tall, her gaze rebellious.
"I don't need that kind of chance. I just want a divorce! Yardley, I won't regret it! Because I will never love you again!"
She practically gritted her teeth on the last few words, forcing them out of her throat one by one.
Her tone was absolute, leaving no room for doubt. Yet, her heart felt as though it had been ripped open by bare hands.
The name "Yardley" had once been carved into her heart stroke by stroke.
Now, trying to erase it wasn't something she could achieve simply by shouting a slogan.
Her mind wanted to forget, but her heart still ached with a soul-crushing pain.
Scarlett's eyes darkened, and a lump formed in her throat. Before the tears could fall, she fled Orchard Villa in a panic, leaving Yardley with nothing but a resolute view of her back.
Yardley's face grew darker by the second. He stood rooted to the spot, staring blankly as her figure disappeared.
His mind was a tangled mess, and a complex emotion welled up inside him. He couldn't tell if it was anger, sadness, disappointment, disdain, or something else entirely.
But there was one thing he was absolutely certain of.
He would rather believe in ghosts than believe that Scarlett could actually go through with resigning and getting a divorce.
She had poured so much blood, sweat, and tears into the design drafts for Zenith Tower. It was practically her baby. She had overcome hurdle after hurdle, and it was finally coming together, right on the verge of being built.
Knowing Scarlett, she would never give up at a crucial moment like this.
