He Loves Me Right, Finally novel Chapter 198

Wynette turned. Lorelei, who had vanished for weeks, finally resurfaced.

Lorelei wore a scarlet sleeveless dress, gliding over to Noah's side.

She looped her arm through his and smiled at Wynette. "Wynette, long time no see. How've you been?"

The instant Lorelei latched onto his arm, irritation flashed across Noah's face.

Even so, Noah acted nothing like usual and did not shake her off.

Wynette noticed the irritation. She'd expected Noah to snap at Lorelei.

Apparently, she'd underestimated the woman.

She gave Lorelei a reflexive glance, then looked away.

Whatever these two were doing, it had nothing to do with her.

Wynette couldn't care less.

Lorelei seemed used to the cold shoulder. She didn't take it personally.

Standing tall, chin high, she looked like a victorious peacock fanning its feathers. Her smile was pure taunt. "I should thank you for stepping aside. Noah and I are getting married in two weeks. You're invited."

Lorelei pulled an invitation card from her bag and held it out.

This was the first Wynette had heard of it. If Lorelei hadn't said it herself, the news wouldn't have reached her.

She glanced at Lorelei. So, the woman had actually pulled it off?

Wynette had no intention of taking the invitation, but she was curious—how had Lorelei gotten Noah to agree to this?

More importantly, she'd have had to convince Eve and Justin. That was the real mountain.

Lorelei held the invitation out, smile intact. "I'm being sincere. I'd really love for you to be at my wedding. Could you do me a solid and just show up?"

"Sorry, I make it a rule not to attend events for strangers—and I'm definitely not opening my checkbook for you," Wynette replied with a razor-sharp, fake smile. "I'd honestly rather throw my money at a local animal shelter than spend a single penny on your gift."

Going to their wedding. Bringing a gift.

The mere image made her stomach turn.

Of course, she didn't need to be polite with these two.

Lorelei fired back. "Oh, no gift needed. You're technically the matchmaker. We should be the ones paying you. We'll even make sure you're seated at the head table."

She was deliberately poking at Wynette.

The second Wynette heard that, she rolled her eyes.

Lorelei stepped forward to stuff the invitation into Wynette's hand.

Before she could, Noah snatched it away and ripped the gold-embossed card to shreds.

His face was murderous as he hurled the pieces on the ground. "Enough, Lorelei. Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough? She won't even look at it, and you're still shoving it in her face like a beggar.

"Who do you think you are? What makes you think Wynette would come to your wedding? Anyone with a shred of shame wouldn't have the nerve to hand her that invitation."

He was referring to all of Lorelei's past scandals.

The old Lorelei would have crumbled at words like that—turned crimson, fled.

This version of Lorelei didn't flinch at all. Her smile stayed sweet. She clung tighter to Noah's arm.

She smiled and said in a spoiled tone, "Noah, that's not fair. I'm not the only one who has done embarrassing things. We're cut from the same cloth, you and me. Let's not throw stones."

The words barely landed before Noah tried to rip his arm free.
