They had been married for seven years, and though it was kept under wraps, she thought they had a solid relationship. Sebastian wouldn't betray her.
But then her eyes fell on the patient's name.
Janetta Ramirez.
Seeing the clear print, Helena's heart trembled.
Her fingers curled, gripping the phone tightly.
So, the gossip wasn't fake after all. It was real.
Janetta was pregnant!
The news hit her so hard she couldn't process it.
The phone stopped ringing, then lit up again with a flurry of messages.
[Seb, why aren't you answering?]
[Had my checkup today. The baby is doing great.]
[My birthday is coming up. What are you getting me this time?]
[Happy ten-year anniversary, Seb.]
Message after message.
Helena's knuckles turned white as she clutched the ultrasound report. She tried desperately not to cry, but tears slipped down her cheeks, splashing onto the paper.
Soon, she heard Sebastian's footsteps heading back her way.
Helena frantically wiped her face, shoving the phone and the report back into his jacket pocket.
Before she could fully compose herself, Sebastian walked in, towel-drying his hair. "Did my phone ring?"
Helena lowered her eyes, avoiding his gaze as she hurried toward the door. "Did it? I wasn't paying attention."
"Helena, what did you want to talk about earlier?" he asked suddenly.
He toyed with the phone in his hand, his expression entirely unreadable. Even the annoyance of being interrupted earlier was perfectly hidden.
Helena steadied herself, looking at him quietly. "Nothing major. I'm just getting a little bored staying at home all the time. I was thinking about going back to work."
Sebastian frowned, his gaze darkening. "Helena, you are Mrs. Hayes. You need to know what is and isn't appropriate. Don't bring up working again. It's out of the question."
His tone was domineering, leaving no room for argument.
