Ten minutes later, the doctor stepped out. Sebastian immediately walked over.
"Rest assured, both the baby and Ms. Ramirez are perfectly fine," the doctor explained. "However, she cannot afford to get this emotional. The stress could lead to complications."
Sebastian gave a curt nod.
Janetta was wheeled out. When she saw him, she looked up with a pale, pitiful expression.
"I'm so sorry... If anything had happened to the baby, I would have never forgiven myself," she whispered, reaching out to lace her fingers through his.
"The baby is fine," he reassured her.
She nodded, looking as though a massive weight had been lifted off her chest.
Sebastian escorted her back to her private room.
As soon as the door clicked shut, she gazed up at him.
"Sebastian, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have thrown a tantrum about coming with you. If I hadn't, we wouldn't have fought, and you wouldn't have gotten hurt." She proactively apologized. "I just wanted to say sorry earlier, but I didn't expect to see..."
As she lowered her eyes, they flashed with a deep, hidden resentment toward Helena.
Yet when she looked back up at him, she appeared utterly heartbroken.
"I know that with me being pregnant, you have needs. And besides, she's your wife," she said with perfectly rehearsed understanding. "When it comes down to it, she was right. I'm just the homewrecker destroying your marriage."
Heavy tears began spilling down her cheeks as she spoke.
Sebastian narrowed his eyes, catching the crucial detail in her words.
"When did you speak to Helena?" he asked directly.
"I ran into her earlier when I came to check on you. She was probably just upset, so she said some harsh things. Since I was in the car when you crashed, she obviously needed someone to blame. She loves you so much, so she just lashed out. Please don't be mad at her."
Janetta played the victim, pretending to defend her.
Her slender fingers tightened around his, her voice dripping with artificial sincerity.
"I'll handle her," Sebastian promised, aiming to soothe her.
Hearing her spin the story made him feel even guiltier toward her.
Compared to Janetta's apparent grace, Helena seemed completely unhinged and unreasonable.
