Louise's mind domain could manifest versions of herself from different timelines.
Shannon had once sparred with the five-tailed and seven-tailed Louise in this domain, gaining strength and mastery through repeated combat.
During those two years of training, Shannon had entered Louise's domain countless times, so she knew that Louise's mind domain had a special area that stored fragmented memories of significance.
Whenever Louise wished, she could sink into that section of her domain and relive any moment of her past. But now, that section of memory was clearly corrupted by malice.
The goal was probably to corrupt these precious memories, twist them into nightmares, and ultimately push Louise into birthing malice of her own.
As the thought struck Shannon, she didn't hold back. Once the black sludge that had once posed as "Edmund" tried to flee, she raised her hand and summoned the power of phoenix.
As a ball of phoenix flames ignited in her palm, it first took the form of a soaring fire phoenix and burned the escaping black sludge. Then, the fiery bird wheeled mid-air and shot toward the elder pinned to the wall.
When the elder's body was ensnared by phoenix flames, he let out a bone-chilling shriek.
The rift in the domain began oozing more of that inky black malice, but the phoenix flames spread swiftly and scorched it all away.
As Shannon fought, Louise withdrew her tail and narrowed her eyes at Shannon with suspicion.
"Aren't you my granddaughter? How are you using the power of phoenix?"
Shannon was utterly speechless. Well, that was a long story, and now wasn't the time for explanations.
Without further delay, Shannon darted to other memory fragments in Louise's domain and swiftly handled the malice trying to twist the latter's memories into something poisonous.
They attacked again and again, each strike laced with malice. Though they couldn't physically harm her, they left behind clinging traces of malice.
Now, patches of black malice had begun to cling to Louise's skin and arms. The black sludge seemed to leech on her body, and each touch tried to consume her piece by piece.
As Louise fought against the attacks from the malice-formed clansmen, she had to remove the clinging malice from her body. Her soul showed a rare weariness, but her expression remained sharp and resolute.
She knew that she could not fall. If her divine soul were to collapse here and now, defeated by the malice, the Soul Tree in her guard would fall with it and be completely devoured by malice.
If that happened, these false phantoms of malice might become real.
The same realization struck Shannon.
