After finishing the meal, the team entered a short rest period.
Zhai Chen and the others surrounded the bonfire, either lying down or sitting, making the most of their time to recover their strength.
Shen Tang, however, found a quiet corner by herself, squatted under a tree, leaned against the trunk, gazing into the pitch-black sky, unable to see even a single star.
She took out the Little Fox jade carving from the space, gently caressing its smooth surface with her fingertips, her nose souring uncontrollably.
Where are Shen Li and the others now?
If only the system could wake up, it would at least roughly locate their direction, preventing them from being as clueless as they are now despite the distance.
Now they are like drops in the vast ocean; meeting again is easier said than done.
She doesn’t even have a single clue...
She wonders how her Beast Husband is doing, what if they encounter danger, get injured, what should be done?
The bonfire crackled brightly, illuminating a small section of the campsite.
The others in the team were soon asleep, but Qin Han lay with one hand as a pillow, one leg bent, never closing his eyes.
His gaze often drifted unconsciously towards that figure in the near distance.
The female sat there alone, enveloped in an indescribable sense of solitude, seemingly clutching something, with a hint of yearning in her eyes.
Qin Han ultimately couldn’t resist, and got up to walk over.
Shen Tang was immersed in the emotions of "thinking of people through objects," suddenly feeling the air around her grow heavy.
She turned her head, meeting the man’s gaze, realizing he was staring at the Little Fox jade carving in her hand.
Her heart skipped, not wanting others to glimpse her innermost thoughts, she hurriedly put the jade carving back into the space, feigning calmness as she asked, "Captain Qin, is there something you need?"
Qin Han, seeing her flustered manner, became even more curious about the origin of the jade carving.
But he wasn’t one to pry so he didn’t ask impertinently, his voice deep like the night wind, "We have to travel again tomorrow, aren’t you resting?"
Shen Tang shook her head, then quickly nodded, "I’m not very tired... um, maybe I’m a little tired after all, I’d better sleep for a while! Good night, Captain!"
She spoke as she was about to get up and leave, Qin Han didn’t stop her, only when Shen Tang turned did he suddenly ask quietly,
Maybe she was originally a member of some Hunting Team, encountered a Mutant Beast attack along the way, her teammates either scattered or died, she was left heavily injured, amnesiac, and without superpower.
However, she could produce so much precious food; her identity was likely not simple.
Qin Han squinted his amber eyes, a trace of pondering flashing through his mind.
"Captain Qin, there are so many things I can’t recall right now, can you tell me what’s going on? What are polluted species?" Shen Tang supported herself on one hand, leaning slightly towards him, looking at him expectantly.
As they got closer, Qin Han almost felt her faint breath, even sensed a subtle orchid fragrance from her.
The scent was indescribably attractive, seemed to have a natural allure for males, difficult to resist, as if rationality was being emptied.
Qin Han uneasily stood up and stepped back, creating distance from her.
"Hm? Captain Qin?" Shen Tang was taken aback by his sudden action, blinked with moist feline eyes, tilted her head looking at him, her gaze innocent and bewildered.
Qin Han took a deep breath, forcing composure, "You... truly don’t know?"
"I truly don’t know, please tell me! The shelter we’re going to later, what’s it used for? Is it the place where you live?" Shen Tang rocked back on her heels, stepping closer, looking up at him with eyes full of expectation.
