She dug her nails into her palm and forced herself to explain, “R–really? I’m not sure. Maybe… the Hewitts want to make it up to Eliza.”

She almost squeezed those words out through her teeth.

All day long, everywhere she went, people were talking about the Schofields‘ party, the Hewitts, and Elizabeth.

The gossip was driving her crazy, and she couldn’t focus on anything.

When the last class ended, she said she wasn’t feeling well and got permission to leave. Then she rushed back to the Schofield Castle.

As soon as she walked in, she saw the housekeepers busy setting up for the party.

Decorations were everywhere. The whole place looked festive.

The sight of it made her blood boil.

She stormed over to her mom, who was directing the housekeepers, and demanded, “Mom! What’s going on? Why are you making this such a big deal?!”

Alessia was surprised to see her home so early. Then she pulled her aside and said quietly, “Hannah, calm down. It’s the Hewitts… their butler called your dad himself. He said it’s for Eliza’s marriage. They’re bringing the engagement gifts. We have to hold this party, and it has to be big!”

“Engagement gifts?!” Hannah’s voice shot up, full of disbelief and jealousy. “No way! Do the Hewitts even know what kind of person Elizabeth is? She drugged a man! They don’t care?! They must not know the truth! I’m going to the Hewitts! I’ll expose her!”

She was screaming, totally out of control, and turned to run out the door.

Smack!

A loud slap hit her face, cutting off every word and movement.

Benjamin had appeared behind her at some point. His face was dark, his eyes cold and serious. “Shut your mouth! If you keep talking nonsense and ruin Elizabeth’s marriage to the Hewitts, don’t blame me for what happens next!”

Hannah stood there, stunned. Her cheek burned.

This was the first time her father had ever hit her.

Before, she was always the one watching Elizabeth get hit!

Grievance, anger, jealousy, resentment–all flooded her at once.

She wanted to cry. She wanted to throw a fit.

Alessia saw how bad things were getting and quickly grabbed her daughter, dragging her upstairs.

Back in her room, Hannah couldn’t hold it in anymore. She threw herself onto the bed and sobbed. “Why? Why does that bitch Elizabeth get to marry Cristian?! Why does she get all the good stuff?! It’s not fair! I hate this!”

Alessia hugged her daughter, trying to calm her down, “Silly girl, even if you’re upset, you have to keep it in. This is not the time to act out! Do you know who the Hewitts are? There’s no way they don’t know what kind of person Elizabeth is. If they still chose this, they must have their reasons. If you go making a scene now, all you’ll do is make your father hate you.”

She paused, then lowered her voice even more, with a hint of warning. “And if Zachary finds out you lost control like this over Cristian, have you thought about what’ll happen?”

Hannah’s crying stopped instantly. When she thought of Zachary, her chest felt tight and messy.

The news about the Schofields throwing a huge party to welcome Trevor and Zaylee eventually reached Hewitt Castle.

In a fancy little sunroom, Zaylee, the matriarch of the Hewitts, was calmly sipping herbal tea.

When the old butler quietly reported the news, her well–kept brows slightly furrowed, showing real confusion.

“We… sent an invitation to the Schofields?” she asked, setting down her cup and looking at the butler.

The old butler, Jeremy Hewitt, bowed slightly and answered in a steady voice, “No, Mrs. Zaylee. We didn’t send any formal or informal invitation to the Schofields.”

Zaylee looked annoyed. “Then what on earth is this party for?”

Jeremy chose his words carefully and said, “Maybe… the Schofields are using this chance to welcome Mrs. Hewitt home?”

“Home?” Zaylee caught that right away and asked sharply, “She’s not staying at the Schofield Castle right now?”

“Yes, Mrs. Zaylee,” Jeremy nodded and calmly laid out the information they had gathered, “After the marriage was registered, she didn’t go back to the Schofield Castle. She went straight back to Planet A001.”

“A001?” Zaylee’s frown deepened. “Didn’t the kingdom already issue her pardon? Why would she go back there?”

In her mind, now that the marriage was set and the pardon granted, Elizabeth should be on Centria Planet–either with the Schofields or in a place arranged by the Hewitts.

Jeremy was quiet for a second before continuing, “The pardon was issued. On the day of the registration, the Schofields‘ second daughter and her fiancé tried to take Mrs. Hewitt back, but she refused.”

He added, “From what we’ve learned, Mrs. Hewitt’s relationship with the Schofields doesn’t seem very good.”
