Seeing Elizabeth’s resolve and the steady way she held herself, everyone exchanged glances. They still worried, but they decided to respect her choice.
The old man gave her a firm nod. “You be careful out there. If anything happens, you call us right away.”
The old lady echoed him, her voice thick with worry. “Don’t push yourself. Stay safe, and do not fight with them if you can help it.”
Fenix kept his voice low and serious. “Ms. Schofield, keep your phone on. If there’s any trouble, you reach out to me. Military family rights are not up for negotiation.”
Elizabeth gave him a grateful smile. “Thank you, all of you. Really. I mean it.”
She wanted to show her thanks, so she thought for a second and pulled out three storage containers from her farm’s storage
button.
She popped the lids, and the sweetest, juiciest strawberry scent filled the air. Inside, each box was lined with plump, ruby–red strawberries that glistened with fresh dew.
The color and aroma drew every eye in the room–even the two cops and Mick’s whole family tried to hide the way their mouths watered.
“It’s just a little something from me. I grew these strawberries on my farm. Please, try them.” She handed a box to Cheryllina and her husband, one to the old man and his grandson, and one to the old lady.
The old lady’s eyes went huge as she took the box, like she’d just stumbled on treasure. Her voice shook with excitement. “Oh, Tycoon Boss! Are these your new strawberries? They look incredible, and the smell–wow!”
Elizabeth nodded. “That’s right. These are my new variety. I’ll be putting up a preorder soon at the city market. You should come by and try them.”
The old lady hugged the box, her face glowing. “Absolutely! I wouldn’t miss it for the world!”
The surprise seemed to wash away some of the worry from the group.
Cheryllina, her husband, and the old man took their boxes with real care, their eyes shining with anticipation.
They all knew quality–these strawberries looked and smelled better than anything sold in stores, and coming from Elizabeth, they were sure to be special.
The two officers looked annoyed, itching to hurry things along, but with Fenix and the others around, they didn’t dare push. They pasted on fake smiles and waited impatiently.
Once Elizabeth finished saying her goodbyes and promised to keep in touch, the officers finally relaxed. They practically hustled Elizabeth and her group out the door and into a waiting hover cruiser.
The patrol car glowed with blue lights that flickered uneasily in the dark, but instead of heading right for the station, Milhouse Wardenfold decided to drop Terence and Mick at the hospital first.
He called it “securing evidence of their injuries.” The whole process dragged out for nearly an hour before they finally set off for the

Without Fenix’s sharp eyes, Cheryllina’s support, or the crowd’s backup, Milhouse’s attitude changed in a snap.
The interrogation room was harsh and cold, the lights glaring white.
Milhouse slouched in the main chair, his partner Lee sat beside him taking notes.
Their faces showed zero concern. They treated Elizabeth’s group like they were already convicted.
“Name.
“Age.
“Address.
“Why did you attack Colonel Conte and his family? Was it revenge? And what about the 5000 stellar coins–was that extortion?”
