He walked quickly to the stall and gave Elizabeth a polite bow. “Ms. Schofield, sorry to interrupt. After Mrs. Tapia and the others tasted the produce we bought earlier, they were extremely impressed. They kept praising it. Mrs. Tapia specifically asked me to return and purchase another 3,000 potatoes, 3,000 sweet potatoes, and 3,000 strawberries. May I ask if you still have enough
stock?”
His expression was a mix of urgency and expectation.
Zachary had once visited Oliver’s residence with his father, so he recognized Vaughn right away. He knew Vaughn was Melinda’s trusted aide and held an important position.
He quickly pulled himself together and greeted him respectfully. “Hello, Vaughn.”
Only then did Vaughn notice Zachary and Hannah nearby. He nodded politely. “Greetings, Mr. Zachary, Ms. Hannah.”
But it was clear his main focus was still the purchase.
Seeing that, Elizabeth showed just enough trouble on her face.
She turned to Vaughn and said, “I’m sorry, Vaughn! It’s not that I don’t want to sell to you. It’s just that Mr. Zachary claimed he would buy all my stock. After I told him the total, he accused me of making up prices and scamming him. At this rate, doing business is getting tougher for me.”
With only a few simple sentences, she shifted the blame right back onto Zachary while stepping on him at the same time.
Vaughn frowned slightly and looked at Zachary. His voice stayed polite, though confusion showed through. “Mr. Zachary, what exactly happened? We just purchased goods from Ms. Schofield earlier. The prices were clear and fair, and the quality speaks for itself. Where is the supposed scam?”
Zachary’s face burned hot.
In front of Vaughn, he didn’t dare act as rudely as he had with the crowd. He forced himself to stay calm, sighed, and said helplessly, “Vaughn, you might not know. Maybe Elizabeth still holds a grudge against my girlfriend and me, so she purposely gave me an outrageous price to trouble me. She claimed these potatoes, sweet potatoes, and strawberries would cost over 50 million stellar coins.”
ア
He stressed the words “outrageous” and “trouble me.”
But the reaction he expected–Vaughn would also find it absurd–never happened.
