Chapter 444 Did We Pack!

Chapter 444 Did We Pass?

That’s enough

A young Staffer stared at the food piled high on his plate, his face fighed. I can get it myself..

Don’t be shy!Tyson sat beside him and added another piece of roasted sweet potato to his place You’ve been running around all day. Eat up! We may not have much else on this farm, but we ve got plenty of food?

The young staffer looked at the sweet potato on his plate, then at Tyson’s bright, eager fare, and suddenly felt a little dazed.

Is this really the same farm that blew up a military ship this afternoon?

How could these people act as if nothing had happened?

Dwayne had the same question.

But with all this good food in front of him, he really could not spare much thought for anything else.

Panseared halloumi, caramelized roasted sweet potatoes, boiled vegetables, roasted vegetable casserole, fresh juice, and fresh fruits. One thing after another went into his mouth.

He felt like his whole mind had been taken over by the food. The arms inspection, the military incident, the Fifth Militaryall of it could wait until after he finished this meal.

Elizabeth sat beside him, watching him eat until sweat beaded on his forehead. The smile at the corners of her mouth grew deeper.

She glanced at Desmond, who gave her a small nod.

The timing was about right.

Chief McGee,Elizabeth suddenly spoke. Her voice was gentle,/carrying just the right amount of concern. I have a question I’d like to ask you.”

Dwayne was just about to put a slice of halloumi into his mouth. Hearing her voice, he looked up, still chewing, and said vaguely, Go ahead, Ms. Schofield.

Elizabeth smiled, set down her fork, and folded her hands on the table, relaxed and at ease.

We passed today’s inspection, didn’t we?

Dwayne’s chewing came to a sudden stop.

The piece of halloumi got stuck in his mouth. He couldn’t swallow it or spit it out.

His face turned red, then slowly went pale. Then, he choked.

He coughed violently, his face turning beetred, tears welling up in his eyes.

Oh, Chief McGee!Desmond immediately stood and handed him his glass of juice. Slow down, slow down. Here, have some juice.

Dwayne took the juice and gulped down several mouthfuls before he finally stopped coughing.

He set down the glass and gasped for breath. When he looked up, he met Elizabeth’s clear, innocent eyes.

Chief McGee?Elizabeth tilted her head, sounding confused What’s wrong? Was there something strange about my question?

Beads of sweat began to4orm of Dwayne’s forehead.

This time, it wasn’t from the heat of the meal. It was cold sweat

He didn’t know how to answer her question.

Should I say they passed?

How am I going to explain that to Fifth Military, then?

Deon had lost an entire ship. One of his specialists was badly wounded and still lying in a temporary medical pod

If Dwayne signed off on the inspection, the Fifth Military might skin him alive.

But there was no way he could fail them either.

He couldn’t afford to offend the smiling woman in front of him, not with the military and political heavyweights behind her, and not with that mysterious defense system that could send a military cannon blast right back where it came from.

Chief McGee,Elizabeth said again when he did not answer. Her voice was still as gentle as if they were simply chatting, I heard you personally led the equipment inspection. There shouldn’t be any problem with that part, right?

Dwayne nodded stiffly. YeahNo problemYou passed the equipment inspection.

That’s good.Elizabeth smiled. What about the defense capability inspection? All of our farm’s ships returned safely, and there were no casualties. Oh, right, one ship had a few marks left on the hull after it was attacked, but that shouldn’t affect the result, right?

Dwayne started sweating even more.

It was true that all the ships had returned safely.

And indeed, there had been zero casualties from the farm.

The few marks left on the hull were not normal damage. It had been scratched by debris from the military ship that exploded.

But there was nothing to say.

He couldn’t possibly tell her that the inspection wasn’t valid because they’d shot down a Fifth Military ship.

That was practically a death wish.

As for the losses among the inspection teamElizabeth paused, her tone carrying just the right amount of regret. I honestly never expected that kind of accident to happen. That ship from Colonel Barron’s teamwhat a shame. But if we’re being fair, that energy blast was fired by them, and it bounced back on its own. That should have nothing to do with our farm’s defense capability, right?

Dwayne opened his mouth to say something but then closed it again.

What can I say?

rean’t argue that it does have something to do with them because it was their defense system that had deflected the attack, right? After all, the shot had been fired from the Fifth Military. They had merely been defending themselves.

Besides, the farm was kind enough to let the Fifth Military thoroughly inspect every ship. It was just that Professor Malone had spent the whole day scanning with the most advanced instruments und found nothing, only to nearly get himself killed through his own stupidity.

So,Elizabeth said, looking at him with clear, innocent eyes, I think we should pass the defense capability inspection too, don’t you? After all, the standard of inspection is whether the fleet can be protected during a pirate attack. All of our ships returned, and the pirateswho attacked us
