The young man who had bought potatoes, curious about the results, had followed everyone to the hospital. He was standing in the crowd watching.”

Without thinking, he blurted out, “Could it be… because of that potato?”

His words struck like lightning, cutting through the confusion in the room.

Jocelyn turned sharply toward him. “Potato? What potato? Explain in detail.”

The young man quickly described how he had used his device at the plaza to test the potatoes and confirmed their premium quality, and how Elizabeth had promised 10 times compensation if there were any problems. He recounted everything clearly and thoroughly.

When the doctors, led by Jocelyn, heard that the potatoes had come from the infamous Garbage Planet A001, their first reaction was disbelief.

“Garbage Planet A001? That’s impossible,” said an elderly specialist with graying hair, shaking his head. “I’ve reviewed the environmental reports from that planet. Radiation levels exceeded safety limits. The soil and water were severely polluted. It barely supported any natural life. If something from that place did not carry deadly toxins or radiation residue, that alone would be a miracle. How could it possibly contain substances capable of repairing mental power damage? That goes against basic biological and environmental science principles.”

“Yes, Dr. Hurlbutt, this is too unbelievable. Could it be a testing error, or that these two had contact with some other unknown factor recently?” another physician added.

Out of scientific rigor, and because that 1% reduction was both tempting and unprecedented, Jocelyn still wanted to speak with the potato seller in detail about the source and cultivation of the potatoes.

However, when they looked around, they realized that the woman who had sparked this uproar had quietly left at some point. She was nowhere to be found.

Unlike the doctors, who approached the matter with skepticism, Milo and Derek reacted very differently when they heard the young man’s account, especially the mention of a possible link between the potato and mental power. The two men exchanged a look. In each other’s eyes, they saw shock and a delayed surge of wild joy.

When they had eaten it earlier, it was not just the incredible taste that struck them. There had also been a strange, refreshing sensation, like cool spring water flowing through a dried riverbed, spreading from their throats to their limbs. Even the dull headaches and irritability that often accompanied their mental power damage had cased at that moment.

They had felt unusually clear–headed.

At the time, they had been so focused on scheming about the 10 times compensation that they dismissed the sensation as nothing more than the psychological effect of eating something delicious. They had not dared to think further.

Now, with Derek’s confirmed 1% reduction in mental power damage, everything clicked.

Milo suddenly grabbed Derek’s arm. Overwhelmed with excitement, his voice cracked as he shouted incoherently, “It was the potato. It had to be. Derek, I remember now. After we ate it, didn’t our heads feel clearer? Didn’t everything look sharper? We even joked that the potato felt weird, like it gave us a rush. I never thought… I never thought it could actually repair mental power.”

He trembled with excitement, nearly in tears.

“Yes. We both did,” Milo nodded quickly. To prove it, he even offered, “Doctor, test me too. Just test my mental power. If my damage has decreased as well, then it has to be because of the potato. I swear.”

Jocelyn agreed at once.
