Chapter 489 Four New Guys
Olivia dropped her voice to a whisper as she leaned toward Tyson from behind. “Is your boss always like this?”
Tyson let out a slow breath. “You’ll get used to her.”
Elizabeth led the way at the front. She took a few steps, then turned back to look at Ciara and the rest of them.
“Right, the benefits I mentioned earlier. You all caught everything, didn’t you?”
Olivia fired back without missing a beat, “Room and board covered, full health and dental, overtime pay, triple pay on holidays.”
“And employee pricing.” Tyson added. “Farm strawberries at fifty percent off, for instance.”
The air rushed right out of Olivia’s lungs.
“Fifty percent off strawberries? The ones… the ones people keep raving about on Starnet? The ones that help restore mental power?”
Tyson nodded. “Potatoes and sweet potatoes, too. All fifty percent off.”
“Potatoes and sweet potatoes, fifty percent off.” Olivia let the words roll slowly off her tongue, her eyes lighting up brighter with every passing second. “What else?”
Tyson thought for a moment. “Apples, grapes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, leafy greens… basically everything grown on the farm. All fifty percent off, and employees get first pick before the general public.”
Olivia grabbed Clara’s arm and squeezed so hard that Clara sucked in a sharp breath.
“Clara!” Olivia’s voice shot up a full octave. “Did you hear that? Not just fifty percent off, but priority purchasing rights too!”
Clara’s wound screamed from the jostling, and she grimaced through every second of it. “I heard you, I heard you, ease up a little
“How am I supposed to stay calm?” Olivia finally loosened her grip, but her eyes were still blazing like twin lanterns. “I’ve been dying to buy a box of those strawberries for the longest time. I waited in that line forever, and the second I got to the front, they sold out. Do you know how crushed I was?”
Felix added quietly from behind, “Same. I lined up twice. Left empty both times.”
Rocket said nothing. He just gave a single nod.
Sharpie drifted at the very back of the group. He rarely opened his mouth, but this time he did. “I got some.”
Everyone turned to look at him. His face was perfectly, completely blank. “They work really well. It’s just nearly impossible to buy a second box. I’ve never managed it.”
Elizabeth listened to all of it with a soft, warm smile.
“You won’t have to stand in any more lines. Employee pricing, fifty percent off. And you don’t wait at all. You walk straight to the farm’s warehouse and take what you need.”
Olivia’s eyes went a little pink at the rims.

It wasn’t heartache. It was sheet, blazing joy
“Clara,” she breathed, squeezing Clary’s hand, Tm4aking this job. Anyone who tries to stop me is in for a fight”
Clara burst out laughing, bright and effortless.
“Nobody’s stopping you.”
Olivia looked at Elizabeth with stars practically dancing in her eyes. “Boss, can I ask… when do we officially start? And when do we get access to the employee discount?”
Clara and the others all turned toward Elizabeth at the same moment, waiting.
Elizabeth thought it over. “Once we’re back, I’d say. The spaceship’s supplies are running thin. We need to save what’s left for the trip.”
Olivia’s expression crumbled from pure euphoria straight into shock.
“You eat strawberries on the spaceship?”
“What else would we do with them?” Elizabeth looked mildly baffled. “You travel, you bring food stock. And it’s not just strawberries, either. Apples, grapes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes… all of it, more than enough to go around!”
Olivia went quiet for a beat, then turned to Clara.
“Clara, pinch me. I’m pretty sure I’m dreaming.”
Clara didn’t pinch her. She just smiled.
And somewhere in that smile, her eyes went soft and pink at the edges.
It wasn’t pain this time, and it wasn’t sadness. It was pure, quiet happiness.
The whole group made their way toward the spaceship in a warm, easy bubble of laughter and chatter.
Elizabeth walked at the front, still murmuring through her menu plans under her breath. “Steam a batch, butter-baste a batch, do a batch with pepper-salt, then a big pot of crab chowder… Tyson, remind Ella to prep extra ginger when you’re back. Crab runs cold. You always need more ginger.”
Tyson called back from a few steps behind her. “Got it.”

“Oh, and garlic,” Elizabeth went on, barely missing a beat. “Garlic butter crab on pasta is honestly stunning. Wait, who’s okay with spice? Because we can put together a Cajun crab too.”
Olivia’s hand shot straight into the air. “Me! Spicy!”
Felix raised his hand right after hers. “Same here.”
Rocket didn’t raise his hand, but his voice came low and clear. “Spicy.”
Elizabeth glanced back at Sharpie.
Sharpie’s face didn’t move a muscle. “Either’s fine.”

Elizabeth gave a satisfied little nud “Alright Steamed, bufter baste, pepper salt, garlic butter pasta, and Cajun spiced. Five styles. Do we have shough crabs Tyson, what’s the count?”
Tyson glanced at the counter in his hand. “Roughly three thousand in the storage button”
“Three thousand!” Olivia’s voice tracked clean down the middle. “You caught three thousand Crackshelt Crabs?”
Tyson nodded.
“How on earth did you catch that many?” Olivia looked completely floored. “Those things are absolutely vicious! They chased us for three days and nights straight-”
Elizabeth waved a casual hand. “Oh, that part’s easy. You put out some produce from the farm, let the smell do the work, and they walk right in on their own.”
The whole group fell into complete silence.
Clara looked at Elizabeth’s back, then slid her gaze over to Tyson.
His expression was perfectly serene, the way someone looks when they’ve just been told the weather is nice today.
Olivia leaned close to Clara’s ear, her voice dropping to a hush. “Clara, how does Elizabeth even do it? She actually grows things so irresistible that even Crackshell Crabs can’t say no!”
Clara shook her head.
She didn’t know either, but something quiet and certain settled in her chest. There’d be plenty of time to figure it all out.
The spaceship sat parked in a wide, open clearing just past the tree line.
Its silver-white hull shimmered in the sunlight, the hatch hanging open. A rich, savory scent drifted warmly from somewhere deep inside.
Ella stood in the open hatchway, craning her neck to peer out.
“Oh, you’re back.” She spotted Elizabeth right away, then caught sight of the crowd trailing behind her. “And you brought friends!”
