And before Tiffany could draw breath for a follow-up, Elizabeth turned and started distributing assignments at a brisk, decisive clip.

“Desmond, the prisoners are yours. Lock them in the detention block and let them get some rest tonight Starting tomorrow, they work.” She ticked it off with practiced ease. “Land clearing, excavation, hauling. anything that’s dirty, heavy, or that nobody else wants to do, that’s theirs. And remember, we’re a law- abiding operation here. No mistreatment, but we absolutely don’t carry dead weight, and we’re not giving them enough idle time to start getting ideas.”

Desmond gave a composed nod, something measured and iron-edged moving briefly in his eyes.
