Chapter 585 Claiming the Mining Planet
Tiffany looked like she wanted to say something else, but Elizabeth had already slipped through the hatch.

Desmond let out a sigh from below and shook his head at Tiffany. His meaning was obvious. There was no stopping her, so they might as well let her go.
Left with no choice, Tiffany followed her aboard.
The spaceship lifted off, broke through the atmosphere, and entered interstellar flight,
Elizabeth found a window seat, set her insulated travel mug on the tray table, pulled out her tablet, and started reading through the files.
She couldn’t remember the mining planet’s designation, but she remembered exactly where it was.
It sat right between Planet A001 and the Centria Planet, about a four-day trip away.
The planet wasn’t very large. Most of its surface was covered with mountains with very little vegetation. Its main resource was a rare mineral used in spaceship power cores. The deposits were only moderate in size, but the ore was exceptionally high quality.
The Fifth Military had once operated a mine there, but after mineral prices dropped and operating costs climbed too high, they abandoned it.
Now the entire planet was left with nothing more than a semi-automated mining system and a handful of temporary prefab buildings. No one was stationed there anymore.
As Elizabeth flipped through the reports, she was already planning how to make the most of the planet.
A refueling station. A shipping and storage hub. Maybe even a launch point for exploring deeper into uncharted space one day.
The planet’s location was almost too perfect. It was so valuable that she couldn’t help wondering if the Fifth Military had hidden some kind of trap there. Otherwise, why would they willingly hand over such a prize?
Then she thought about it again. They probably believed they were only letting her hold onto it for now. Once they got rid of her, they could simply take it back.
She let out a chuckle. Once something landed in her hands, it had never found its way back to its original owner.
With a cold smile, Elizabeth shut off her tablet and leaned back with her eyes closed to rest,
Several hours later, the spaceship touched down at the mining planet’s makeshift landing site.
Calling it a landing site was generous. It was really nothing more than a fairly level stretch of bare rock that hadn’t even been, paved.
The spaceship kicked up a massive cloud of dust as it landed.
Once the dust settled, Elizabeth looked through the window at the grayish brown wasteland outside. A string of barren hills rolled across the horizon.
At the foot of the hills stood several rust-covered prefab buildings. Farther away, a massive mining machine stood all by itself like the rusting skeleton of a forgotten giant.

“We’re here.” Tiffany unbuckled her seat belt and began assigning tasks. Tearn One will survey the mineral deposits. Team Two will inspect the mining equipment. Tearn Threewill set up the termporary camp. Everyone meets back here at noon.”
The team acknowledged their orders and filed out one after another.
Elizabeth came down the boarding ramp last, her backpack slung over one shoulder as she strolled along at an easy pace.
Tiffany glanced at her. “Boss, are you sure you don’t want someone with you?”
“Nope.” Elizabeth waved her off. “You all go do your jobs. I’m just going to wander around.”
Tiffany looked at the dull gray hills and the dust swirling through the air. She honestly couldn’t imagine what there was to see.
Still, she didn’t argue. She simply turned and led the survey team away.
Elizabeth stayed where she was, watching them disappear into the distance. Then she reached into her backpark and pulled out an energy stone.
The stone was milky white from edge to edge, glowing with a soft light beneath the gloomy sky.
She tossed it lightly in her palm, the corner of her mouth curling into a smile. “Time to get to work.”
She headed straight for the abandoned mining machine.
The enormous piece of equipment covered a huge section of the mountainside and was the most noticeable landmark on the entire planet.
If the Fifth Military had left anything behind, this was the most likely place.
She circled the machine once before finding several hidden recesses at key structural joints.
They weren’t natural at all. Someone had carved them by hand, and each one was the perfect size to hold an energy stone.
Elizabeth crouched down, set the stone into one of the recesses, closed her eyes, and pressed her palm against it.
Thin streams of invisible energy flowed from her hand, spreading through the machine’s metal framework. They branched out like spiderwebs, weaving together into a complete array.
The process lasted about ten minutes. When she finally opened her eyes, the once glowing stone had turned completely transparent. Every bit of its energy had been drained.
She pulled out another stone and placed it into the next recess.
One node after another, she continued setting everything in place.
The mining machine. The prefab buildings. The water source. Every major vein with the richest energy ore deposits.
