Chapter 588 Captured Prey

The nets spread through the air, flashing with silver-white light as they accurately dropped over every Swarmborn. (1)

One shot for each.

No extras, and none missed.

The men and women who had been so elegant and composed, impossibly beautiful only moments ago, let out piercing shrieks instant the energy nets trapped them.

Those weren’t sounds a human could make, but high-pitched, grating cries like those of some monstrous Swarmborns.

Their bodies began to twist and distort, their skin splitting apart like shells shedding, revealing dark brown exoskeletons and compound eyes beneath.

Claws extended from human fingers, long and razor-sharp, gleaming coldly beneath the sunlight.

The younger farm staff staggered backward in terror, and some collapsed to the ground with weak knees.

They couldn’t believe it. The people who had been talking with them just moments earlier were actually Swarmborn.

The kind of savage, bloodthirsty monsters that existed only in Kingdom propaganda films.

The man leading them-or rather, the male Swarmborn-was also trapped beneath an electro-net.

His transformation was the most complete. Almost all of his human disguise peeled away, revealing the massive, armored hody beneath.

His compound eyes were blood-red, reflecting Elizabeth’s face.

He struggled furiously, trying to tear through the net, but the instant the energy touched his shell, blue arcs of electricity burst

across it.

His body convulsed from the shock as he let out a miserable scream.

Elizabeth watched the Swarmborn writhing and struggling on the ground. There was no fear on her face, only intense curiosity

She crouched down with her hands resting on her knees and tilted her head, studying it as if examining some fascinating invec specimen.

The Swarmborn’s blood red compound eyes glared at her while trissing threats escaped its mouth, and the sprites along its stand rose one by one like a cat puffing up its for

Elizabeth wasn’t afraid in the slightest. She even stretched out a binger and bleed the patterns hack shell fly i

“Your shell’s pretty aggh,” she muttered to herself, sounding like an expost adiving quality immmchandran too, dark brown with a metallic sheen, like it’s besin glazed”

What type of Swarmborn are you? A worker? A soldier?” She tilted her head and thought for a moment. “Judging by your size probably a soldier type, right? Developed muscles, heavy armor, sharp claws… You have a classic combat build.”

The Swarmborn didn’t answer. It only struggled harder as the electro-net crackled noisily around it, blue arcs of electricity runn wildly across its body. It convulsed in pain, but still refused to speak.

Elizabeth wasn’t in a hurry. She crouched down in front of it again.

“I can tell even if you don’t say anything. Soldier drone, strong combat ability, but not exactly known for brains. I’ve studied your social structure. Soldier drones are cannon fodder, the ones sent charging into battle. No one even cares if you die. Sending you o an infiltration mission like this makes it pretty obvious they see you as expendable.”

Her voice was soft, almost like she was chatting with an old friend, but every word struck directly at the Swarmborn’s weak point

The Swarmborn’s compound eyes flickered, and its struggle weakened slightly.

Elizabeth immediately caught the change, and the corners of her mouth curved upward.

“Look at this shell of yours. It’s over an inch thick, right? I’d guess the hardness is on par with light armor. And these claws-six of them, each with hooks. They’re probably as sharp as military knives.”

She started counting on her fingers, growing more excited with every word. “Do you know what your equipment could do on a farm? Land cultivation! Hard soil, wasteland, compacted ground, the kind even plowing machines can’t turn over. One swipe from these claws would be more effective than my tilling machine.”

The Swarmborn froze. D
