Seeing how horribly their companions ahead had been torn apart, they glanced back at Scarface, who knelt there like a man made of blood, then looked toward the lazy figure still standing under the distant lights. The last bit of courage inside them vanished.
They froze like they had been hit by a freezing spell, shaking uncontrollably, their faces filled with total despair.
Only then did Isaac and Milo jog over. Looking at the pale–faced group, smug “told you so” looks spread across their faces.
Milo
put his hands on his hips and panted. “I warned you not to run. Why didn’t you just listen? You just had to learn the hard way again, huh?”
Isaac spoke from the side, sounding like an experienced veteran giving serious advice, “Exactly! We’ve already gone through this. Why would we trick you? Don’t be scared. Boss is the nicest person you’ll ever meet. She doesn’t kill innocent people without reason!”
Doesn’t kill innocent people without reason?!
Are you seriously saying that?!
Those bodies on the ground are still warm!
Milo waved like it didn’t matter. “Stop staring at them. That’s what they get for not listening. They pulled their weapons and tried to escape. Whose fault is that? As long as you behave and follow orders, Boss won’t treat you badly! Not only do you get liquid supplements, but if you perform well, you even earn sedatives as rewards! Isn’t that way better than risking your life every day out there and never knowing if you’ll survive tomorrow?”
Isaac added, “That’s right. We used to be just like you. Look at us now. Still alive, right? Listen, and you live!”
The two of them backed each other up, doing their best to act like reformed men trying to guide others onto the right path.
But even while sounding friendly and warm, a faint twisted excitement could still be seen deep in their eyes as they watched the newcomers walk toward the same fate they once faced.
Elizabeth yawned. “Tiffany, I’ll leave the cleanup to you.”
Inside the reception room at Hewitt Castle, the scent of coffee floated gently through the air.

Zaylee, dressed in stylish casual wear, sat with a graceful smile as she welcomed her guest, Claudia Gallagher, the birth mother of Lucille the kingdom’s third princess.
Claudia’s well–maintained face showed just the right amount of concern. After a few polite greetings, she smoothly guided the talk toward the real reason she had come today.
“Zaylee, we’ve known each other for years, so I’ll speak directly.” Claudia gently placed her cup down, her voice holding a trace of testing curiosity. “What’s actually happening with Cristian’s marriage? I heard he’s matched with Elizabeth, the daughter of the Schofields?”
Heh, does she really need confirmation to know that?
This marriage had already been announced across the whole kingdom.
Zaylee complained silently in her heart, yet her smile remained soft and polite. “What else would it be? It’s a required match assigned by the Kingdom Genetic Registry. They scored a perfect compatibility rating. You know how it works. Once someone at Cristian’s level receives a perfect match, there’s no refusing under the rules.”
Her calm tone placed all responsibility onto the strict Kingdom Genetic Act.
“But wasn’t that supposed to be temporary?” Claudia leaned slightly forward and lowered voice, clearly disapproving. “Why did I hear that you’re preparing engagement gifts? Don’t me you’re really planning to hold a grand wedding and truly accept her as your daughter–in- law?”
Zaylee elegantly refilled Claudia’s cup. Her voice stayed gentle, yet firm certainty lay beneath it. “When a man marries, giving engagement gifts is simply proper. Rules must be followed, and dignity still matters.”
“You always care so much about appearances.” Claudia sighed, looking like she was speaking sincerely. “But you should understand that a marriage based only on gene matching goes against human nature! Cristian is such a remarkable young man, the kingdom’s youngest major–general, with endless potential ahead of him. Is his future really going to be ruined by cold genetic data, tied to someone completely unworthy of him?”
Her tone was filled with pity for Cristian.
Zaylee’s smile stayed steady. She placed the cup down with a light sound, then reminded her calmly, “Your Highness, the genetic matching law is the kingdom’s highest rule. It protects the kingdom’s stability and future. Speaking like this in private is fine, but you’d better be careful
outside.”
A brief flash of embarrassment crossed Claudia’s face, but she quickly returned to an affectionate tone. “I’m only saying this because we’re close! Zaylee, I had someone investigate Elizabeth. Her character is truly… awful beyond words!”
