The Farming Saint in the Starry Wasteland
Chapter 138 Uh Oh
Alessia stared at the chaos, and her vision blurred so badly she almost fainted.
The butler and a maid caught her before she could fall.

Right in the middle of this disaster, Serefia swept over and took hold of Alessia’s other arm, her voice gentle but loaded with meaning.
“Alessia, you need to stay strong. Who could’ve imagined today would turn out like this?”
Serefia heaved a dramatic sigh, her voice dropping as she probed for more. “The Hewitts‘ actions today are baffling. They already recognized Eliza as their daughter–in–law, so where were the formalities?”
She paused on purpose, eyeing Alessia for any sign of weakness, then continued, her tone as smooth as velvet. “Or maybe… the Hewitts are actually dissatisfied with Eliza?”
That was exactly why she stuck around.
Elizabeth was someone the Knights had tossed aside, and if she ended up favored by the Hewitts, that would spell disaster for them.
Serefia desperately wanted to see Elizabeth fall out of favor, tossed aside by the Hewitts as soon as possible.
Only then could the Knights prove they were right all along.
Alessia’s mind raced, shame and anger tangling inside her, but she managed to keep her mouth shut about the Hewitts handing Elizabeth the engagement gift in private.
If anyone found out, it would just make people think the Hewitts valued Elizabeth, but looked down on the Schofields for mistreating her.
She forced herself upright, her body trembling as she managed a smile uglier than crying.
She echoed Serefia’s words, her voice thin, “Thank you for your concern, Serefia. The Hewitts… their family. is so powerful, and their rules are strict. Maybe… maybe they just have their own priorities. Our family… probably aimed too high.”
She blamed everything on family status and rules, neither confirming nor denying the Hewitts‘ dissatisfaction, which left plenty of room for speculation and barely kept her dignity intact.
Serefia saw how tight–lipped she was and did not push for more. She offered a few more words of fake comfort before leaving with Zachary.
As soon as the Knights left, Alessia, who had been holding it together by a thread, nearly collapsed from exhaustion.
Hannah hurried over, her face shining with a twisted kind of joy.
She had overheard enough of her mother’s conversation with Serefia to catch the words she most wanted –“the Hewitts are dissatisfied.” She ignored everything else.
“Mom!” Hannah’s voice trembled with barely contained excitement.
She clung to Alessia’s arm, demanding confirmation, “So the Hewitts really don’t like that lowlife Elizabeth? That’s why they didn’t show up today, right? They wanted to humiliate her, didn’t they?”

Hannah’s face practically glowed with hedenfreude, if the could already see Elizabeth living in misery.
mored by everyone in the Hewin hoceted.
Alessio looked at her daughter’s undisguised glee, opened her mouth to say something, then closed it again.
She didn’t correct Hannah’s misunderstanding, nor did he mention the engagement gift.
Maybe the Hewins really didn’t care about Elizabeth
After all, her dirty laundry was all over the web. A family like the Hewitts would never overlook that
Maybe that money was just compensation to save face. Thinking that way made Alessia feel a little better.
Back in her own room. Hannah locked the door behind her.
All the fake worry and sadness she had shown in public disappeared, replaced by wild glee and smug
satisfaction.
She flopped onto her soft bed and rolled across it twice, but the thrill in her heart only grew stronger. She had to share it.
She wanted everyone who had laughed at her or envied Elizabeth’s luck to know. Elizabeth was nothing.
She logged onto her device and opened her college group chat.
Everyone there was talking about fashion and useless gossip.
Hannah worked herself up, then sent a crying selfie that looked like she was falling apart.
Her act worked instantly. A few friends messaged back with concern.
“Hannah? What happened?! Why are you crying?”
