Chapter 148 Is That So

There was a pause on the other end of the call. When Jeremy the butler finally spoke, his tone was colder than before, heavy with authority. ‘Is that so? What’s Mrs. Hewitt’s condition right now?”
Mr. Wardenfold shot a glance at Elizabeth. She looked calm as ever. He answered quickly, “Ms. Schofield is… relatively stable, just not cooperating with our investigation. What do you suggest?”
Jeremy cut him off right away. His voice had a chill that told everyone he was not asking, “Address.”
Mr. Wardenfold spat out the station’s full address as fast as he could.
“I understand. Jeremy only said those three words before hanging up right then and there.
The dial tone droned in the room.
Mr. Wardenfold froze for a second, then a smug little smirk crept onto his lips.
He thought he’d nailed it.
The butler’s reaction screamed annoyance to him.
That was pure anger–definitely disappointment, too.
Jeremy did not even bother asking for more details. He must’ve figured this embarrassing woman had caused the family trouble again.
That’s why he sounded so cold.
Mr. Wardenfold felt pretty pleased with himself. He puffed up a little.
To prove his theory, he pulled up the Schofields‘ info right in front of everyone and placed another call.
This time, the Schofields‘ butler answered.
Mr. Wardenfold repeated his story, making sure to hint at Elizabeth’s “bad behavior” and “causing trouble.”
The Schofields‘ butler said, “Hold on, I’ll ask the head of the family.”
A shuffle of footsteps and voices drifted from the other end.
Then, a man’s furious voice exploded over the speaker.
Benjamin sounded like he was about to destroy the phone.
“What? She’s causing trouble again? That disgrace! She’s a walking embarrassment! Tell her the Schofields have no daughter like her! She can rot out there for all I care! Don’t let her come near the Schofields ever again! I couldn’t care less if she lives or dies!”
The line went dead.
The two cops visibly relaxed.
If even her own family wanted nothing to do with her, what hope did Elizabeth have with the Hewitts?
They exchanged knowing glances.

Chapter 148 is That So
Every bit of fake respect vanished from their faces, replaced by open mockery.

Mr. Wardenfold’s lips twisted into a phony grin as he waved his hand at Elizabeth and her group, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Oh. Mrs. Hewitt–right? This way, please. Don’t give us hard time. Looks like you’re spending your day at the station.”
He stretched out every syllable, eyes glinting with glee.
Mick and Mandy grinned like they’d already won, acting like they could see Elizabeth’s downfall in real time -abandoned by both the Hewitts and the Schofields, le with nothing.
Tasha did not even get a glance from Mick.
He had written her off the moment she and her mom get sent to Garbage Planet.
Elizabeth just gave them a little laugh, like she was watching some bad sitcom that had nothing to do with
her.
She’d told Fiona and the others before–folks from Garbage Planet were used to this. Guilty or not, it made no difference.
As for payback? Once her farm took off, she’d have plenty of ways to even the score.
But the others around her were not so calm.
Cheryllina stepped forward. “Ms. Schofield, we’ll come with you.”
Emeriton nodded too.
The old man thumped his cane. “Count me in. With my grandson there, no one will dare mess with you.”
Fenix did not say a word, but his determined stare made his answer clear.
The old lady grabbed Elizabeth’s arm and held on tight, like she thought someone might try to hurt her. “Tycoon Boss, don’t worry! I’ll go too! I’ll call my son right now and have him meet us at the station. Let’s see who tries to frame you!”
Elizabeth felt her heart twist.
