Chapter 235 Retreat in Shame
Rufus jerked his head up. His bloodshot eyes locked onto Elizabeth, who was still standing calmly insi the farm, looking completely at ease, with even a faint hint of mockery on her face. He trembled with
rage.
He pointed at her, his voice twisted and hoarse from extreme anger and the lingering pain.
“You… how dare you?! Elizabeth! What did you do to us?! This is assault! This is terrorism! I’m going to you! I’ll make sure you rot in prison!”
Stephan had also caught his breath. Leaning on a guard’s shoulder, he struggled to stand, his beard shaking with anger. “Outrageous! This is absolutely outrageous! You… you used illegal weapons to attac authorized inspectors of the Kingdom! Your farm must be hiding serious safety hazards and illegal operations! You owe us an explanation!”
Halle shrieked in agreement. “That’s right! And everything you grow in this toxic soil is harmful! We’ll expose you! We’ll make the entire Kingdom know you’re selling poisoned produce!”
Wayne’s face was ashen. When he looked at Elizabeth, his eyes were filled with both fear and resentmer He leaned closer to Rufus and said in a low voice, “Mr. Blanton, something’s off about this place. That attack just now… it’s not like any defense system the Kingdom has. There’s definitely something strange about her.”
Rufus knew that all too well.
But at this moment, his reason had almost completely burned away under his fury.
Especially after losing all dignity in front of his elite guards and the highly respected experts he had brought with him, there was no way he could swallow this humiliation.
He suddenly turned to the guard captain beside him, his expression vicious. “What are you standing ther for?! She openly attacked us! Open fire! Shoot her legs! Take her down first!”
A flicker of hesitation crossed the guard captain’s face.
He understood the strangeness of what had just happened better than Rufus did.
That attack had been invisible and intangible, acting directly inside the body. It was completely beyond hi understanding.
And right now, Elizabeth stood just a few steps inside that boundary, looking relaxed, almost amused, as if she had no fear of the guns in their hands at all.
That unnatural calm only made him feel even more uncertain.
“Mr. Blanton, this…” the guard captain hesitated. “We don’t understand the situation. Opening fire rashly might…”
“Might what?! She’s alone! We’ve got all these guns! Is the Stinger–III in your hand just for show?!” Rufus roared. “Carry out the order! If anything happens, I’ll take responsibility!”
Chapter 235 Retreat in Shame
**Finished
The guard captain gritted his teeth and raised his weapon anyway. A faint blue glow began to gather at the muzzle of the energy gun, locking onto Elizabeth’s legs.
The other guards followed suit, raising their weapons again, though there was more caution than intent to kill in their eyes.
Facing at least seven or eight gun barrels aimed straight at her, Elizabeth did not even twitch.
She tilted her head slightly, as if curiously observing the light gathering at the muzzles. The mocking curve of her lips grew more obvious.
“What, negotiations didn’t work, so now you’re going to take it by force? I’ve really seen what Seafarm Group is about today,” Elizabeth said. Her voice was not loud, but it carried clearly to everyone, edged with cold sarcasm. “But I’d think carefully before pulling that trigger. Just now, the land simply didn’t like you and gave you a small warning. What do you think will happen if you actually try to use force here? What else might this land do?”
Her words were light, but they felt like a bucket of ice water poured over them. It cooled part of Rufus’s rage and made every armed guard feel a chill run down their spine.
What else might it do?
That sudden, unbearable pain from before–had that really been all of it?
What kind of terrifying thing was hidden beneath this seemingly peaceful land?
Elizabeth’s confidence was not an act.
The guard captain’s finger rested on the trigger guard, trembling slightly. He simply did not dare to pull it.
Fear of the unknown was often more terrifying than any known danger.
Rufus’s expression shifted constantly, his chest rising and falling sharply.
He looked at Elizabeth’s calm, unreadable eyes, like a deep, still lake. Then he glanced at the shaken, disheveled experts beside him and the guards whose fear was plain on their faces. Thinking back to that strange and unpredictable attack, a chill crept up his spine.
He realized that he had seriously underestimated this woman today and the strange nature of this farm as well.
