Andrew didn’t give Lilith a chance to respond before jumping in, his face the picture of dramatic betrayal. “Sweetheart! This is outrageous! You’ve got food this good, and you’re hiding out here all alone? Are you even our daughter anymore?”
Maeve nodded in firm agreement, her gaze fixed on the now–empty plate. “Exactly! Tell us, you have more? Where did you get these strawberries and potatoes?”
Lilith’s heart skipped a beat.

She realized she’d been so caught up in eating that she’d forgotten about her parents entirely.
“I’d never forget my favorite people!” She ushered them into seats, then reached into her portable storage button and pulled out three identical plates.
Each plate held a neat stack of golden fries, a few freshly washed strawberries, and a small dish of strawberry jam.
“See, I knew you two would raid my stash, so I planned. One plate each–no more stealing from
me!”
They each grabbed a plate and, without another word, started eating.
The solarium was filled with the sounds of satisfied munching and the occasional delighted
gasp.
Andrew spoke through a mouthful, his voice thick with admiration. “This is unbelievable… Sweetheart, you have to tell me, where did you get this? Our agri–research center cost us millions, and even that state–of–the–art farm can’t grow anything like this! Everything else tastes like synthetic feed compared to this!”
Lilith lifted her chin, pride lighting up her face, and started her story.
“Prepare yourselves, folks! This all started when I was wandering through the Seafarm Group supermarket. I was bored, but suddenly I caught the scent of the freshest strawberries. I followed it and found a beautiful, elegant woman eating strawberries. I went right up and introduced myself, and she was so nice. She shared one with me. One bite and I was a goner!”
She gestured excitedly, her voice bubbling over. “After that, I started asking around and heard the woman selling strawberries had a stall at Mercury Plaza. I rushed over with security, and there she was–Ms. Elizabeth Schofield!”
Maeve paused, her spoon halfway to her mouth, her expression thoughtful. “Elizabeth? That
name sounds so familiar.”

“Mom, you’ve definitely heard of her!” Lilith scooted closer, eager to spill everything. “She’s matched with General Cristian Hewitt from the First Military. Her name’s all over Starnet.”
She suddenly scowled and waved a fry for emphasis. “But I’ll swear on my title as a food lover, Ms. Schofield is nothing like those rumors say! She’s amazing, and her food is even better! Anyone saying otherwise is just jealous.”
Andrew, who’d barely looked up while eating, suddenly snapped to attention, his instincts as a business titan kicking in. His eyes grew sharp.
He swallowed and spoke in a measured tone. “Let me guess, Seafarm Group wants her farm and crops. They’re spreading rumors to drop her price or pressure her. I’ve seen this kind of dirty trick too many times. Seafarm Group always pulls these stunts.”
Lilith gripped her dad’s arm, her worry obvious. “Dad! What if they ruin Ms. Schofield’s farm? If I never get to eat these potatoes and strawberries again, that’d kill me!”
Maeve reached out and tapped her daughter’s forehead, her laugh gentle. “Silly girl, why stress? With the Hewitts supporting her, Seafarm Group can’t do a thing.”
Lilith frowned, still unsure. “But people on Starnet keep saying the Hewitts don’t care about Ms. Schofield. They’d love to see her get bullied.”
Maeve let out a soft snort. “Do you know anything about the Hewitts‘ reputation? If they didn’t care, they never would’ve agreed to the genetic match or let her walk around using their name.”
Lilith finally relaxed, comforted by her mother’s certainty, and turned her attention back to her food.
Suddenly, she brightened up, ready to share. “Oh, right! I traded ten watermelon seeds from our research center for ten giant watermelons with Ms. Schofield!”
“Watermelons?
“Where are they?”
The Armstrong couple dropped their serious expressions in an instant, their eyes lighting up, just as greedy as Lilith had been earlier.
