Chapter 269 Potatoes and Strawberries

Lilith stared at the screen in disbelief. If her favorite foods could really help her dad recover, she would never think of keeping anything to herself now.

She immediately pulled out every last potato, sweet potato, and strawberry from her portable storage button and heaped them in front of her parents. Her voice was bright with pride. Here’s everything! There were sixteen of us in line at Mercury Plaza today. They capped it at a hundred servings per person, and after what we already ate, there are about 1580 potatoes left, maybe 1600 sweet potatoes, and a little more than 1700 strawberries. Dad, take them all! Eat as many as you can every day!

Andrew’s heart warmed as he watched his daughter push over her most precious treats without a second thought, especially those strawberries she’d always treasured.

He knew just how much she loved strawberries.

He only took the storage button with the potatoes and sweet potatoes, then gently nudged the pile of strawberries back to her. Sweetheart, I know how much you love strawberries. Keep them for yourself and enjoy them. Your mom and I will eat the potatoes and sweet potatoes. I’m sure they’ll help just as much.

He paused, his expression turning serious as he looked at his wife and daughter. But, sweetheart, there’s something I want to ask. Besides your mom and me, I’d like to give half of these potatoes and sweet potatoes to a friend. Is that alright?

Before Lilith could answer, he hurried to explain. My friend is Gabriel from the Fourth Military. Years ago, he saved my life and helped me so much in business. Our whole family owes him. He has a daughter who’s suffered terribly.

Andrew let out a heavy sigh, sorrow threading through his words. Gabriel’s biological daughter was switched at birth in the birthing pod. She was lost for years and endured so much before they found her, and by the time she came home, both her body and her mind were ruined by her adoptive parents. Her mental power is almost gone. Sometimes her pain is so severe she’ll smash her head against the wall, and she’s even tried to hurt herself. Last time I visited, I saw one of her episodes. It broke my heart. If these potatoes and sweet potatoes can help at all, even a little, maybe she won’t have to suffer so much.

Maeve squeezed her husband’s hand, her eyes glistening with empathy. Honey, I support you. I’ve heard about that girl’s story, too. It’s just heartbreaking.

She hesitated, though. But we just found out about this effect. Shouldn’t we wait a few days, eat more ourselves, and see? If it doesn’t work, Gabriel’s family will be devastated all over again.

Andrew shook his head, his voice full of conviction. There’s no need to wait. Even if it doesn’t lower the damage level, I know it helps with the pain. I’m certain of it. Last time, I saw that girl

in agony, banging her head against the wall. If there’s any way to help her, even a single day, it’s

worth it.

Maeve nodded immediately, her voice trembling with emotion. You’re right! Let’s send it now. The sooner she can eat, the sooner she might feel relief.

As a mother herself, she could barely imagine what Gabriel’s wife must feel, watching her child

suffer.

Lilith quickly started dividing up the strawberries her father had pushed back, adding more than half to the pile with the potatoes and sweet potatoes. Dad, take these strawberries too! They taste even better, and any girl would love them. Maybe they’ll make her feel a little happier and help her cooperate with treatment!

Watching his wife and daughter act with such warmth and kindness, Andrew’s chest ached with pride and affection.

He nodded deeply, said nothing more, and called for the butler. He gave this mission the highest priority, ordering his most trusted aide to deliver this special gift to Gabriel’s estate at the Fourth Military, along with a handwritten letter explaining everything.

Fourth Military, Gabriel’s Residence.

Muffled sobs and strained cries of pain now filled the mansion, replacing its usual calm. The sounds drifted from a heavily reinforced bedroom at the far end of the second floor.

The room was a wreck.

Every object that could be moved had already been cleared out, and all the walls and furniture corners were wrapped in soft padding.

Still, a vivid red stain had spread across the pale wallpaper.

Gabriel’s daughter, Denisse Hawthorne, who had only recently returned home, sat crumpled in the corner like a broken doll.

A fresh wound on her forehead was still bleeding, streaking her pale face and tangled dark hair with crimson.

Just a few minutes ago, another violent, mindshattering episode had hit her.
