Chapter 42 A Public Smear

Derek and Milo exchanged a knowing look. They stepped out from behind the pillar and blended into the
line.
When it was their turn, Derek pretended to carefully pick out two potatoes and paid.
Elizabeth accepted the stellar coins and lifted her eyes to glance at them calmly.
There was a street thug vibe about the two of them. Their eyes shifted around uneasily, and she had already noticed them lurking and watching from a distance earlier.
Almost instantly, she understood what they were planning.
They were clearly trying to take advantage of her “10 times compensation” promise to extort money.
She sneered inwardly but kept her expression neutral, smoothly handing the potatoes over.
Elizabeth ran her business openly and honestly, with clear prices and fair dealing. But if someone thought they could treat her like an easy target, they had better make sure they had strong enough teeth.
She wanted to see what tricks they could come up with.
After the two shady men left with their potatoes, Elizabeth stopped paying attention to them and focused again on her booming stall.
To attract even more customers, she decided to take out her simple portable stove and small pot from her storage button and set them up right there.
She added water, placed several washed potatoes into the pot, and started boiling them beside the stall.
As the fire heated up, the water began to boil. A rich, starchy sweetness mixed with that fresh, clean scent rose with the steam and spread through the air.
The aroma was even more tempting than the raw potatoes. It was like an invisible hook drifting across the plaza, making passersby stop and swallow unconsciously.
“Wow, what smells so good?”
“It’s potatoes. Freshly boiled potatoes.”
“That smell is amazing. Way better than those liquid supplements.”
As expected, this live cooking advertisement worked incredibly well.
More people drawn by the scent gathered around. After asking about the price and tasting the free cubes. almost all of them joined the rush to buy.
The potatoes in Elizabeth’s storage button decreased at a visible speed.
The steady chime of incoming stellar coins nearly blended into a cheerful melody, putting her in an
excellent mood.

Meanwhile, the two men who had bought the potatoes slipped back to their messy little shack in a nearby slum area.
“Hurry up, cook them and taste them,” Derek urged impatiently.
Milo quickly washed the potatoes and put them in a pot of water to boil.
Soon, the same mouthwatering aroma filled the small room.
When the potatoes were done, they did not even wait for them to cool. They peeled them and took big bites.
The next moment, both of them froze.
Soft, creamy, sweet, with an indescribable flavor that made their whole bodies feel comfortable. The potatoes were so good they almost wanted to swallow their tongues.
Milo finished one in just a few bites. He licked his fingers, looking hesitant. “Derek, these potatoes are seriously good. If we say there’s something wrong with them, won’t it be too fake? Will anyone believe us?”
Derek’s mouth was still full of lingering flavor. He felt a slight wavering too, but when he thought about the 10 times compensation, greed crushed that tiny bit of conscience.
