Chapter 72 Show Them the Way

Elizabeth waved a hand dismissively, cutting off Adam’s self–blame. “Even if you hadn’t led them here, they would’ve found their way sooner or later. Honestly, it’s better this way. The sooner they came, the sooner I could deal with it.”
Her gaze swept over the “free labor,” and there was even a hint of satisfaction in her tone. “Besides, I happen to be short on workers. If they’re delivering themselves to my doorstep, it‘ be a waste not to use them.”
Adam looked at her calm, unbothered expression, admiration filling his heart. “Ms. Schofield, you’re incredible. You’ve even managed to subdue the Black Rats.”
Then his expression turned serious, and he lowered his voice. “But Ms. Schofield, these men a rotten to the core. A leopard doesn’t change its spots. You have to be careful using them.”
Elizabeth nodded, accepting his concern. “Thank you, Mr. Rose. I’ll be careful—”
Before she could finish, Selina, who’d been watching the crowd warily, suddenly cried out, “Ms Elizabeth! They’re trying to run!”
Sure enough, three or four men had taken advantage of the distraction to sneak away.
Now that they’d been spotted, they split up and bolted in different directions, clearly thinking: would improve their odds.
Tiffany and Melton reacted instantly, almost on instinct. They raised their improvised mecha arms as faint energy began to gather, ready to intercept.
“It’s fine,” Elizabeth said lightly, stopping them both. “Let them run.”
Tiffany frowned, words tumbling out quickly. “Ms. Schofield, we can’t let them go! If they make it back, they’ll bring reinforcements. Then-”
She didn’t get to finish.
In the darkness, several thin yet razor–sharp streaks of silver light flashed by at a speed the eye could barely follow.
Pfft!
Pfft!
The dull sound of blades slicing through flesh echoed one after another.
The fleeing men were still mid–stride when their heads separated cleanly from their bodies,

rolling across the ground, frozen expressions of shock and disbelief still etched on their faces.
Their headless corpses staggered forward a few more steps before collapsing heavily.
The sudden, merciless slaughter stunned everyone into silence.
“Ahh!”
The remaining Black Rats were terrified out of their minds, screams dying in their throats, their faces drained of all color.
In the next second, they dropped to their knees with a series of thuds, bowing frantically toward Elizabeth, their voices shaking uncontrollably.
“M–Ms. Schofield, spare us! Please spare us!”
“We’ll behave! We won’t try to run again!”
“We’ll work! We swear we’ll work hard!”
Elizabeth gave a casual wave of her hand. “Then what are you waiting for? If this area isn’t cleaned up before sunrise… you know what’ll happen.”
“Okay, we got it!”
“We’ll get to it right now!”
They scrambled to their feet, moving faster than ever before.
No one dared hesitate. As they cleared the garbage, they even hurried to clean up their companions‘ severed remains and bloodstains.
They were afraid that if they were even a heartbeat too slow, that lethal silver light would fall on them next.
The people of Hope Town were already staring in stunned silence, fear and shock mixing in their eyes.
There were no laws here, and they’d seen plenty of killing and looting.
But such clean, decisive, merciless action was something else entirely.
When they looked at Elizabeth now, their gazes were filled with wordless awe.
Only Timothy and Selina showed no fear at all. Instead, their eyes shone with open admiration.
Elizabeth, meanwhile, looked completely unaffected. She turned to Tiffany, who’d spoken up

earlier, and even offered what could be called a “pleasant” smile. “By the way, hello. I’m Elizabeth. And you are?”
Caught off guard by the sudden introduction, Tiffany blinked. “T–Tiffany Loffe.”
“Tiffany. Nice name,” Elizabeth said. “You mentioned the Black Rats still have backup. Roughl how many are left?”
There was a trace of curiosity in her tone… and something like anticipation.
