Chapter 85 Nothing Left but Ashes
That killed any real hope Elizabeth had for the nine storage buttons she’d just confiscated.

Sure enough, when she checked the three storage buttons Blackrat had handed over voluntarily, they were mostly filled with liquid supplements and sedatives.
And they were all the lowest–grade versions.
Altogether, there were only a few hundred doses.
A rough estimate put the total value at less than what the three storage buttons themselves were worth.
However, the two storage buttons Melton had found hidden in Blackrat’s boots were a different story.
Those contained mostly energy stones.
There were 50 to 60 mid–grade energy stones and around 300 low–grade ones–an unexpected windfall.
That alone could keep the farm’s circle running for several months.
As for the other four lackeys‘ storage buttons, aside from a small amount of liquid supplements and sedatives, the rest was basically junk.
At best, she’d gained a few extra storage buttons for free.
Elizabeth asked Blackrat whether there were any remaining supplies at their base.
Seeing his eyes dart around suspiciously, she didn’t bother trying to judge whether he was lying.
She simply had Tiffany lead the way and decided to personally pay a visit to the Black Rats‘ hideout.
She planned to conduct a full carpet search and haul away anything remotely useful–not leaving so much as a scrap behind for those scum.
Melton was left behind to guard the group of free laborers.
Elizabeth said, “If anyone slacks off, hit them. Don’t hold back.”
The Black Rats‘ base turned out to be even more shabby than she’d imagined.
A cluster of crude shacks thrown together from scrap steel plates, pipes, and torn tarps, the entire place reeked of mildew and filth.
Then again, people on Garbage Planet were dirt poor to begin with. Even if bandits wanted to rob someone, there wasn’t much to squeeze out.
They searched several of the larger–looking shacks in a row, but aside from broken furniture and random debris, they found nothing of value.

Just as Elizabeth was about to give up, they discovered something in the very last shack at the far corner. Five women with heavy iron chains locked around their ankles. And three… children.
Their clothes were tattered to the point of barely covering their bodies.
Their skin was covered in bruises and scars, their eyes hollow and numb, like dolls that had long since lost their souls. It was obvious they’d endured inhuman torment.
Rage flared instantly in Elizabeth’s eyes. She suddenly felt she’d been far too lenient with Blackrat and his pack of beasts.
She decided on the spot that when she got back, the original 12–hour work schedule would be extended to
[ust then, Tiffany suddenly gasped beside her. “Brianne?! Brianne! You’re alive?!”
She rushed over to a woman curled up in the corner, her hair filthy and matted into knots.
Dropping to her knees, Tiffany brushed the tangled hair away from the woman’s face. When she saw the pale, gaunt features beneath–still faintly recognizable–her eyes instantly reddened.
Brianne Floyd stared blankly for a long time before her cloudy gaze slowly focused. Then, she whispered, hough it was barely audible, “Tiffany?”
‘Yes! It’s me! I’m Tiffany!” Tiffany’s voice broke as she gripped Brianne’s icy hands. “I’m sorry… We searched for you for so long. Later… we thought something had happened to you… We never imagined hose animals from the Black Rats had hidden you here…”
Elizabeth stepped forward and asked curiously, “You know her?”
Tiffany wiped her tears and explained hoarsely, “Ms. Schofield, her name’s Brianne Floyd. She’s from Hope Town–one of our best workers. About a year ago, she went out to look for supplies and never came back. The entire town searched for ages. We couldn’t find her alive… and couldn’t find her dead, either. We all thought she was gone… We never imagined she’d been abducted by the Black Rats…”
Her voice was thick with guilt.
In the end, their trip to the Black Rats‘ base yielded no valuable supplies. All they brought back were five women whose bodies and spirits had been shattered.
Elizabeth naturally wasn’t going to take them in directly. Instead, Tiffany, on behalf of Hope Town. accepted them back.
The only thing Elizabeth could offer was this: once they recovered a bit physically, they could come work at the farm and earn compensation through their own labor.
Since the new settlement hadn’t been finalized yet, Tillany–after getting Elizabeth’s approval- temporarily arranged for the five women to stay in a relatively clean corner of the farm and asked Fiona to help look after them.
She herself stormed off, burning with fury, to settle the score with Blackrat.
Elizabeth had no objections. She only added a reminder, “Teach him a lesson if you want. Just don’t
