Carter whisked me up as our tongues tangled together. He gripped me tightly to him as if I’d
vanish from his arms. His kiss seared and overflowed with a desperate desire. I knew he
wanted me in the physical sense…but this? It took me aback. Carter really wanted me; this
wasn’t just a pity fuck for him, to keep me safe. My limbs tangled around his body, a giggle
was set free from my throat into the dank, dark world I had inhabited since my mother died as
he hiked me up while he paused on the landing to lean me into the wall, his hands exploring
my body as his mouth with hot, moist kisses ran down the column of my throat. I’d pretend

to mine and his hands eased up beneath my shirt. The feel of his skin against mine felt like a
current, each graze of his hands against my flesh igniting something alive inside me I had
buried. His mouth released mine as he kissed down my throat.
“One word… one hesitation… I’ll stop.” He murmured between kisses that seemed to zing into
the depths of me. I had prepared myself for the physical onslaught of feelings, but this–this
was much more. The intensity of which awakened some deep slumbering part of me that rose
to meet him. My hands explored the hard planes of his body as they slid up his shirt. Carter
