We pulled up to Clyde’s house in my truck, the house was buzzing with activity, I
slid out and adjusted my black and silver tie and pulled my jacket on as I walked
around. Clyde had insisted this was a formal occasion, which was the first of its
kind in our pack. It would just make tonight all the better. I glanced up at the
house, the warm glow of white holiday lights wrapped around the pillars of the
porch. That had to be Briar’s touch, he wouldn’t have gone through so much
trouble to make this party so inviting. I reached her door, pulling it open to find
her sending a text before she tucked it into her clutch and smiled up at me. I
helped her slide out, her long glittering black dress falling to the pavement of the
driveway. I took her in like I had when I walked into the bedroom earlier. I couldn’t
get over the sight of her like this. The sweetheart neck, with the off shoulder
sleeves and the cinched waist accentuating her curves. Her hair was pulled up, she
had lightened it recently and the pale blonde hair cascaded from her high ponytail
in ringlets. Her lips were so dark red they were almost black, her smokey eyes and
dark precise eyeliner making those aqua eyes pop like precious jewels.
“What?” she asked as I tucked her close to me and she picked up her dress as we
began to walk.
“Just thinking how incredibly lucky I am,” I let her know.
“Are you ready for this?” she asked.

I nodded, forcing a smile at someone we passed as we walked up the porch steps.

“I’m more than ready,” I whispered into her ear as I kissed her cheek before
drawing away. She gave my hand a squeeze. All eyes had reverted to us as we
passed. I was escorting the guest of honor and I found myself beaming with pride
for the woman on my arm. Mazzie and Lana came up to us. Mazzie sporting a smart
looking pant suit and Lana in a short hot pink cocktail dress. Briar had ordered all
of our outfits; good thing because none of us was good at this shit.
“There she is!” Clyde’s voice boomed over the chatter. Any eyes that weren’t on us
were now. It had been the rumors that had gotten most of the pack here tonight.
The gossips wanted to know who this heir was that was unknown to everyone.
Silence washed over the living area of the house.
“Come daughter,” he said, holding out his hand to her. I felt her tense beside me as
she drew up a mask of pleasantries over her face and smiled at him. I realized she
must have had practice at all of Creedon’s events. She was better at this than the
rest of us. She took his hand and I suppressed a growl. Mazzie and Lana stepped
close to me as we followed to where he led her in front of the fireplace. His aura
rose and washed over the present pack members. They began spilling into the large
open plan living and dining space drinks in hand. All called to attention by their
alpha. Once he had everyone’s attention he called out to the pack.
