Chapter 16
Thinking of this. Alexander felt sharp pain in his chest, like a knife twisting in his heart, making it hard to breathe.
He endured the pain in his heart and stared at her profile, unconsciously raising one hand as if to grasp something, but
he only clutched at empty air before Sophia turned to look at him.
Not noticing his strange gesture, her eyes seemed to hold something familiar, but looking again, there was nothing
there. ‘Alexander, you’ve been here over two weeks now. What exactly do you want?”
Two weeks already? It felt much longer to Alexander.
He smiled bitterly, his voice hoarse. “Sophia, I thought a lot while you were gone. I thought about your suffering, about
the terrible things I did, and finally only our past happiness remained in my mind. My conclusion was that I couldn’t let
you leave. I truly realized my mistakes and that I really can’t function without you, so… Sophia, please, please give me a
chance to make amends, okay? I’ll definitely make it up to you properly. We can go back to how things were, okay?
Sophia, please…”
“A chance?” Sophia laughed sarcastically. “You already had your chance, but you didn’t treasure it. When you pursued me
before, you also said to give you a chance to treat me well. I gave it to you, but what happened? I was devastated. Now
you want another chance? I’m telling you there isn’t one. No more chances.”
She wasn’t someone who dwelled on the past. Since that chance had been wasted, she wouldn’t give another.
Alexander was completely crushed by these words, unable to straighten his back, his throat constricted. The sharp pain
in his heart made every breath agonizing.
Sophia delivered her final words. “This is where it ends.”
With that, she turned and left.
Alexander seemed nailed to the spot, watching her gradually disappear.
When he could no longer see her figure, his vision was also shrouded in darkness, unable to see any light.
He didn’t know how long he stood there-maybe minutes, maybe hours-before finally regaining feeling in his limbs.
Alexander didn’t know if this counted as a final ultimatum, but he still couldn’t bring himself to give up.
But he could feel Sophia’s resistance to him. His heart was torn between two voices.
One told him not to give up and keep pursuing; the other told him to listen to Sophia and let it end.
They fought fiercely while Alexander remained unsure what to do.
He couldn’t imagine how dark mornings would be, waking up never to see Sophia again.

This internal struggle completely collapsed one morning.
By then, he’d gone two days without seeing Sophia at the B&B.
Initially thinking she was just busy and they hadn’t crossed paths, by the second day he realized something was wrong.
Early that morning, he frantically ran to the front desk, urgently asking, “Where’s your boss?”
The receptionist, knowing he was pursuing her boss, was still startled by his appearance and didn’t speak for a while.
When Alexander asked again, she finally replied. “The boss said she had business and would be away for a few days.”
“Where did she go?”
‘I don’t know either. She didn’t say.”
Alexander returned to his room devastated, sitting on the bed with empty eyes staring into space.
Gone.
She was gone again.
She’d abandoned him and left again.
His inner fortress completely collapsed, and he felt himself falling into endless darkness.
After an unknown time, he took out his phone and called his assistant, who hadn’t heard from Alexander in ages since
he left Manhattan.
This time, a weak voice came through. “Find out where Sophia went. I’ll send you her new identity information.”
