Chapter 4
The second I saw my dad, Liam Winslow, I understood why he had come.
The news from that morning.
I wiped my face fast, lifted my injured foot, and forced out a spoiled little pout.
“Because Adrian hurt me.”
Adrian, without missing a beat, nodded.
“My fault,” he said. “I hurt Audrey.”
Seeing our affectionate look, Liam clearly breathed a sigh of relief.
He went to the kitchen to prepare a meal for the family to eat together in the evening.
Liam’s figure vanished completely, and I grabbed Adrian as he was about to stand up. “Where are you going?”
“It’s getting late. I need to go see Sienna.”‘
“It’s Thursday.” I stared at him. “You promised.”‘
He started prying my hand loose.
“I married you,” he said, “but Sienna and the baby in her belly have no name, no ring, and no place in public.”‘
“She’s been through enough already. She’s lost weight these past few days. I’m going to stay with her for a while.”
“Dad is still here. You are not going.”
I locked both hands around him and held on with everything I had.
“Audrey, stop.” This time he used real force.
I stumbled backward, lost my balance, and hit the floor hard.
The room went black.

When I opened my eyes again, I was in a hospital bed.
I was pregnant too.
After that, Adrian stopped talking about leaving.
When I woke up the next morning, he was still there.
“It is Friday. “Why are you still here?”
He scooped up a spoonful of warm chicken broth, blew on it, and held it to my lips.
“The doctor said your emotional state isn’t stable,” he said. “As your husband, it’s only right that I take care of you.”
The warmth slid down my throat and spread faintly through my body.
Soon, a call from Sienna pulled me back to reality.
