Chapter 3
The image of their bodies tangled together seared into my brain.
I lunged at her, hand raised. Justin shoved me back before I could get to her.
I stumbled.
“Don’t fucking touch her!”
She pressed herself against his chest, tears running down her face.
“Sarah, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen. Justin was just trying
to comfort me, and we… we ended up falling in love.”
“Harry is in that bed because he saved your life. If you feel guilty at all, let Justin go.”
Justin pulled her closer. When he looked at me, his voice went cold.
“You can’t blame her for this, Sarah. You’ve spent every waking minute on your brother. Did you ever stop to think about what I needed from you?”
I dug my nails into my palms until I drew blood. It did nothing for the ache in my chest.
That was when it hit me.
She’d gotten over Harry by sleeping with my husband.
And it had started because he felt sorry for her.
I went through the dash cam footage from his car.
Days and days of recordings, full of the sound of them fucking,
His voice was low and rough. “Who’re you crying for now?”
She was crying and gasping. “You. For you.”
“And who am I to you?” It got rougher.
She gasped it out. “Justin. You’re Justin.”

I hated them. All I could think about was making them pay.
I pulled the audio from the dash cam and made a video. Then I posted it everywhere. I tagged her university, his company, all of it.
I’d underestimated how much sway he had. His PR team buried the story within hours.
The video vanished like it had never existed.
Justin slammed a printout in front of me.
“Your brother’s medical bills. Best hospital, best doctors, experimental treatments. I’m spending millions a year to keep him alive. Try that again, and I’ll stop paying.”
That shut me up cold.
When we were kids, people used to throw it in Justin’s face that his mom had abandoned
him.
Harry and I got into fights defending him more times than I could count. He’d told me
back then that Harry was his brother too, that we were all family.
I laughed, bitter and hollow.
People change. Nothing I said mattered.
He was using Harry against me, and we both knew it.
I had to let it go.
I never imagined that letting it go would cost Harry’s life.
The next time I saw Zoe, she was in Harry’s room. I’d barely reached the door when I
saw her crying at his bedside.
“Harry, I’m sorry. I fell in love with Justin. If you ever wake up, maybe you can talk to your sister. Ask her to let us be together.”
“Even after she divorces him, don’t worry. Once I’m Mrs. Hayes, I’ll make sure Justin keeps paying for everything you need.”

I screamed and rushed into the room. I grabbed her and tried to drag her out.
“Get out! Who the fuck let you in here?”
She wouldn’t move. I slapped her as hard as I could.
We were shoving each other when she slammed me back into the wall. The nurses had
to pull us apart.
Then the pain hit, sharp and brutal, low in my belly.
I didn’t know I was four months pregnant.
The impact made me lose the baby.
Justin’s voice was quiet when he finally spoke
“You’ll have other babies. But you ruptured her eardrum. She has permanent hearing
loss.”
I laughed so hard I started crying.
Maybe that was his guilt.
Justin paid for the Premier Suite at a luxury recovery center. I spent forty-two days
there after the miscarriage.
He came to visit a few times. I wouldn’t even bok at him.
Eventually, he stopped trying.
He started seeing Zoe openly instead.
The days blurred together. Those forty-two days felt like years.
When I finally checked out, I went straight to the hospital to see Harry.
