Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier) novel Chapter 304

After rushing back to the car, Lily waited for a while before Rowan finally emerged.

He removed his helmet and tossed it onto the track. He then sat down, looking drained. "You can see him now," he said.

Lily hurried over and opened the driver's side door.

Hayden lifted his helmet's visor. His eyes were bloodshot, and tears had soaked into the cotton lining. When he heard the door open, he shifted his gaze and met Lily's eyes.

"Lily..."

"I'm here, Hayden." Lily gently removed his helmet, unbuckling his seatbelt and wiping his tears with a tissue.

Suddenly, Hayden's grip tightened and pulled her into a tight hug. "Is her family upset? How's the child?"

Hayden spoke so much for the first time in nearly two months, and it was the first time he directly addressed the fallout from the accident.

Lily gently patted his back. "Don't you remember? We gave her family some money. It's been such a short time; it's enough to make sure her child has food and shelter. If you want, we can visit her child."

"I want to go. Let's go see them..." Hayden nodded. She would do whatever Hayden asked without hesitation.

Rowan was drenched in sweat in the cold weather.

Suddenly, he felt a kick to his backside. When he turned around, he saw Xavier walking over with a cigarette in hand.

He waved him off. "No thanks. Research shows smoking can cause cerebellar atrophy and make you dumber as you get older."

Xavier paused for a moment, having just lit the cigarette. He then took a drag and pinched it between his fingers. "How's it going?"

Lily followed his gaze but quickly looked away. "Is there any further treatment planned?"

"Just a couple more psychological sessions and that should be it." Rowan stood up, brushing off his pants. "Well, I guess we can call it a day?"

He gave a few more post-treatment care instructions, and the group started walking toward the racetrack exit.

It was the cold winter, just three days before the new year. The biting cold wind contrasted with the bright sunshine.

Hayden naturally linked his arm with Lily's. Though he was quieter than before, his eyes were focused as he listened to her conversation with Rowan.

They saw Xavier and Terence standing face-to-face as they reached the racetrack gate.
