Gilbert stood there staring at Sherry. “What’s the point? I’ll tell you the point.

“The point is for everyone to see that Julia isn’t the only one who messed up. While the whole world was calling her a homewrecker, did you ever think you’d end up here?
“And you got here all by yourself. Don’t try to use our divorce to make Julia the villain. That’s not happening.”
Sherry stood there, and in an instant, she understood. “So you’re saying… you won’t divorce me because you’re worried about Julia’s reputation?”
“Stop trying to trap me,” Gilbert said. “I know your game. You want to divorce me so Julia gets branded forever. So she carries that “homewrecker” label for the rest of her life.
“I never realized how calculating you are. Since you don’t get it, let me spell it out.
“Anyone who hurts Julia? I don’t let it slide. Even you. Consider this a lesson. I’m doing this for your own good.
“I’ve never seen anyone treat her husband’s savior this way. You have no gratitude at all-you even want to slander an innocent person. So this is just a little punishment for you.”
So he refused to divorce her, leaving her trapped in a marriage in name only, suffering endlessly, tormented to death inside this relationship.
He wouldn’t leave because once they divorced, everyone would assume it had to be because of Julia.
For Julia’s sake, he’d keep Sherry suffering in this marriage.
And to make sure she stayed trapped? He’d framed her with Yelena’s husband, and he didn’t care what happened if today got out.
Whether Sherry divorced or not? What end would she face? Would her name be trashed?
Gilbert never once considered Sherry’s fate. All he cared about was what kind of grievance Julia might suffer.
No divorce? People would curse her.
Divorce? They’d still curse her to hell and back.

Gilbert was really something.

What a joke. He’d done so much dirty stuff and still had the nerve to say it was for her own good. How could he even let that crap out of his mouth?
Sherry’s eyes went as red as Yelena’s-bloodshot, scary, like she wanted to snap Gilbert’s neck.
Gilbert’s brow pinched, honestly rattled by that look.
That look was like he was the enemy.
Had Sherry not thought this through? Things had reached this point, and he still hadn’t asked for a divorce.
Even now, he hadn’t left Sherry. Didn’t that prove he had a conscience?
When would she understand his good intentions?
She should take the hit, go home, and play the wealthy wife. What’s so bad about that?
Before, she had only endured minor grievances. Now she was suffering terribly-and wasn’t it all because she’d brought it on herself?
Did she think he caused this?
Stop slandering a good person. Own your mess. Don’t dump your karma on someone else.
Or what’s the difference between Sherry and a thug?
Gilbert’s expression said he hadn’t done a single thing wrong.
Sherry felt her head spin and throb. She finally knew what it meant to break down.
He’d even driven a wedge between her and her friends, destroyed her friendship-and now he acted like he’d done nothing wrong, Sherry felt her blood boil.
In that instant, she wanted to grab the sharpest tool at hand and go down with this bastard.
She didn’t get the chance-Adam grabbed her.
He hauled her back hard until cold water slapped her face, and only then did she come to.
Sherry cried. She thought she was done with tears. If life had trials, this would be her last.
It wasn’t. It was just the beginning.
