Who was she calling a simp?
Him? A simp??

Gilbert was stunned by that label for a long while. By the time he snapped out of it, Sherry was already gone.
Once outside, Sherry turned to Adam. “After this is over, I should resign.”
Adam was quick on the uptake. “You’re worried that messing with Hector will bring trouble down on Lucas?”
Yeah, he’d nailed it. Mr. Miller had always been this mysterious figure; Sherry had dug into him before and come up empty.
Which meant Hector was probably just as untouchable.
She hadn’t been at the company that long. She didn’t want her problems to become his.
Even if Lucas was willing to take the heat, would his family be?
Sherry still hadn’t met much of Lucas’ family. Besides his parents, she had no idea who else was in the Harrison clan.
She’d heard it was a huge family. Weird that they hardly ever gathered, though. Maybe they just didn’t do business together.
But that didn’t mean they didn’t hold shares. Sherry had taken some of those shares last time. Normal families would’ve thrown a fit.
But no one had shown up. Now, if she pissed off the Snyders, would they dig up old grudges and come after her?
“Even without

you,
the Harrisons and Snyders are already enemies.”
“I thought the Harrisons didn’t have business in Keiperian?” That’s why Sherry hadn’t bothered digging into Hector.
“I don’t know all the details, but Lucas is no average guy. Don’t underestimate him. I messed up because I care too much about him.

“Think about it-Lucas going silent probably means he’s onto something. Every time something like this happens, the Harrisons end up climbing even higher.”

It’d been a while since Adam had asked about Lucas’ family business. To their group of friends, Lucas didn’t need them worrying.
And because he’d stopped worrying, Adam had messed up today.
Lucas had handled worse when he was younger. He was older now. No way he’d fail.
Adam had been stressing over nothing.
But still, Lucas dropping off the grid like that was weird. Maybe someone had made a move. Too many coincidences.
Not many people could fool Adam.
He kept those thoughts to himself, though.
He’d already screwed up the main job. He couldn’t let Sherry run off, too.
If Lucas came back and found his woman gone, Adam would be dead meat.
“Plus, Hector’s local. You really think he’s just here to play simp? Markets are finite. He’s after the same project we are. The Snyders were always going to be competition. And it’s not like Lucas is scared of him!”
Sherry still felt uneasy.
“Look at it this way-has Lucas ever fired anyone who was loyal to the company, no matter who they pissed off?”
He hadn’t. That was true.
A lot of employees treated Harrison Group like family. Maybe not quite family, but they wanted to retire there.
Sherry finally relaxed a little.
“I’ll drive you to Yelena’s. Let’s go over everything that went down. We’re not giving them another opening.” Adam was angrier than anyone.
Lucas had never asked him for a single favor.
The first time he did-win this damn case-Adam had dropped the ball. He couldn’t let that
