Samantha looked down at the handheld vacuum cleaner in her hands, then up at Monica, whose expression was becoming increasingly stern.
She felt something wasn't quite right, but still, she decided to bite her tongue. This wasn't her house, and she didn't want to cause trouble.
Besides, it wasn't right to dirty someone else's couch. She just wanted to finish cleaning up quickly and be done with it.
Samantha plugged in the vacuum and carefully checked every crevice of the couch, making sure she didn't miss a single spot. When she thought she was almost done, she turned to find Monica standing there, quietly watching her work.
This was getting even weirder. Why was she the one doing the work while Monica just stood there, watching like a hawk?
"Don't you have something to clean?" she asked.
"Well, I have to keep an eye on you, don't I?" Monica replied. "Just looking at you, I can tell you're not used to doing housework—so clumsy and scatterbrained. If I weren't here watching over you, do you really think you'd get anything done properly?"
Samantha was speechless.
She held back her frustration, reminding herself that they both worked for Leonardo, and Monica was an experienced employee.
These long-time employees really did seem to hold some kind of superiority these days.
"Don't get mad. Being polite brings wealth!" she repeated to herself silently.
Then, she said to Monica, "You don't need to watch me. Go ahead and do your thing."
"How could I do that? As a woman, you should be understanding and wise. Doing housework is essential. You need to learn how to take care of the home and serve your husband. Since I have some free time now, I can teach you."
"I don't need— "
"I'm just trying to help you. Why do you look like you don't want to listen? I'm a top-notch housekeeper. When it comes to cleaning, I'm a pro. So many people want to learn from me, but I've never taught anyone. Now, I'm teaching you because I want to help you."
Samantha had been tolerating Monica for a while. She took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. After all, getting angry was quite draining.
However, Monica hadn't left.
Samantha didn't want to see her, so she quietly opened the door just a crack to peek outside. Her room had a clear view of a corner of the living room.
Monica was clearly surprised by Leonardo's early arrival. "Mr. Garrett, you're back already?"
Cleaning was supposed to be done before 5:00 pm. Although Monica had said she would "wait it out" with Samantha earlier, that was just an empty threat. She had been cleaning, trying to finish in time, and had picked up the pace as the clock ticked down.
She hadn't expected Leonardo to come back early and looked a little embarrassed.
She had only met Leonardo once when he first hired her and discussed his requirements. After that, all communication had been through Simon. Now, suddenly seeing Leonardo again, she was a little nervous.
He had such a commanding presence that just standing there made people feel a weight of pressure.
"Sorry, Mr. Garrett," Monica said quickly. "I'm running slightly behind today, but I'll make sure everything is done before 5:00 pm."
