"Your wife must be quite the VIP, keeping everyone waiting like this," a member of the Garret family said.
Leonardo replied coolly, "If you can't wait, you're welcome to start without us."
The man chuckled awkwardly, too embarrassed to say anything else.
"Leo, sit here." Laura beckoned, gesturing for Leonardo to take the seat beside her.
The dining table was set for over a dozen people, and that particular spot was the only one left—right between Laura and Yvette.
Samantha just realized Yvette was also present.
Yvette's connection to the Garrett family seemed deeper than she had imagined. She could appear at such an intimate family gathering.
"Alright."
To her surprise, Leonardo agreed without hesitation.
Samantha's face paled slightly. What about her?
Her gaze swept over the table. There were other seats, but they were all beside strangers. It was an awkward situation, to say the least.
She hadn't even taken her seat yet, and already, she was being put in her place.
Leonardo had already reached the spot when he glanced back at her. "What are you standing around for? Come here."
"Okay," Samantha replied. Inside, she was utterly lost.
Every eye in the room was fixed on the two of them, and she felt as though her every move was being scrutinized. But years of professional training kept her composure intact. Even if she was nervous inside, her expression remained calm.
Yvette's expression darkened.
With Leonardo seated beside Laura, Samantha had no choice but to take the spot next to Yvette. The tension between them was palpable—like two rivals locked in a silent, seething standoff.
Laura glanced back at the staff. "You may begin serving."
The staff filed in, placing steaming dishes one after another onto the massive rotating table.
The table was so wide that Samantha estimated the person across from her was a good 30 feet away. It was far enough that any conversation would require shouting.
Laura raised an eyebrow, her smile sweet but edged.
"Samantha, right? This is your first time at the Garrett residence, and yet you kept your elders waiting. Don't you think that's rather disrespectful?"
