If Samantha admitted she was hot, she would be basically slapping herself in the face.
She quickly changed the subject. "Aren't you asking for a bedtime story? Hurry up and get to sleep."
Leonardo hummed in acknowledgment. He lay in bed and snuggled under the blanket. Meanwhile, she sat beside him on the edge of the bed.
"A long time ago, a cute little bunny lived in a thick forest. Its parents told it that the world outside was dangerous, with wolves, tigers, foxes, and snakes.
"Despite the danger, it was still curious about the outside world and wanted to go on an adventure…"
Gentle yellow light filled the bedroom, wrapping Leonardo and Samantha in a cozy glow.
Samantha's voice was soothing, and her eyes shone brightly under the light, like they had stars in them.
He leaned back against the headboard, staring at her with undivided attention and not wanting to miss a single expression of hers.
He looked at her with his eyes filled with affection and attention. Right then, she was everything to him.
Before Leonardo even realized it, his thoughts drifted back to his childhood. Adrian and Laura were super strict with him, and his life was mapped out down to the minute.
Everything had a strict schedule, like when to get up, eat, study, and sleep. His life was filled with rules and expectations, leaving no room for a breather.
Sure enough, Leonardo never had bedtime stories growing up.
They often urged Leonardo, saying, "You're the rightful heir of the Garrett family, Leo. Don't let the illegitimate son take the family fortune."
They also pressed, "Work harder, Leo. You can't lose to your older brother."
When Leonardo didn't do well, he only received criticism, never reassurances. "Why can't you get this right, Leo? How are you going to compete with your older brother down the road?"
Even though Samantha didn't get it, she decided to respect it. It seemed like she wasn't bothered by Leonardo's touch, so she continued the story.
It was a short story. She had just gotten to the part of the rabbit outwitting the tiger, but there were more challenges with the fox and snake. Yet, he was already fast asleep.
Samantha couldn't help but giggle as she watched Leonardo sleeping soundly. She had no idea he could sleep this well. He actually dozed off during a story.
She gently shifted, thinking of getting up. However, she realized he was still holding her hand tightly, like a child clinging to their favorite toy.
"I need to go back now," Samantha whispered into Leonardo's ear. Her voice was soft like a murmur, and she carefully tried to pull her hand away from his.
However, Leonardo instinctively squeezed her hand tighter, as though he wasn't willing to let her go even in his sleep.
Leonardo's lips barely parted as he muttered, "Don't leave…"
