As for Jared being the take-charge kind of person, yes, he seemed to be quite dominant she had to admit to herself. “Hmm, trying to be polite, I suppose.” She waved it off, “Though I still don’t think it’s necessary, Edward.”

“You may not, but after what you relayed about the weekend, with an unknown Alpha, and I’m guessing his entire unit, because we rarely travel by ourselves, and that combined with the sudden appearance of an unknown warrior out the front of your building…” he shook his head. “I don’t like it. I’d much rather you come into the pack, but I know you’re not going to.”

“I’m not.” She stated and stood up, and looked at Kyan as he stepped over to her desk. “Hello.” She greeted him, offering her hand to him.

“Morning ma’am.” He nodded and took her hand in a brief but firm shake, “I believe I’ll be your driver for coming and going to the office.”

“Done that before, haven’t you,” he nodded. “When you left your home pack, I’m guessing?”

“Hmm,” she shrugged. “No one was looking for me, Edward, no one cared that I left. I assure you of that, she told him how she felt about it.

“I’m betting your Mate would have,” Edward sighed and shook his head as if he didn’t believe her. “You

know the one that rejected you, or maybe you rejected.”

“He was gone away the day after it happened, uncaring of our rejection.” She told him, she’d known her words in his office this morning, had seen him understand she’d been rejected, Jared as well she was willing to bet. When she’d answered that question about would she know if she had a Mate on a full moon or not. She’d answered it without much thought, but it had told both him and Jared that she’d had a mate once, and they were in fact rejected because both of them knew she had no marking scar.

“Where did he go?” Edward pushed a little.

“How would I know.” She shrugged it off. “I was in the pack hospital at the time.” She lifted her right wrist up, “Dealing with this.”

She saw him frown and nod slowly, knowing it would make him drop the subject, which he did. He wasn’t going to ask her exactly what happened. He thought it was going to be something very painful for her to talk about, like she’d been kidnapped and brutalized, and she let him drop it, because it stopped his questions.

His eyes moved from her wrist back to her eyes. “That is not why you went away for the weekend.” He sighed knowingly.

“Hmm, after everything I’ve been through in the past month, I just needed to get away and really relax, Edward. You can’t blame me for wanting that, can you? Not after the injuries I sustained. Surely anyone would want a nice break and a trip to the beach, a nice hotel room, with a glass of wine and a spa bath. What more can a girl want!”

“Hmm, I could think of at least one thing all she-wolves want. That you skipped out on.” he muttered. She smiled at him and leaned back in her chair, “Technically, I didn’t skip that because I did come across other wolves, an Alpha and his unit on the day of the full moon.”

“I think that Alpha is now looking for you. You mentioned you’d seen him before, a long time ago.”

“Hmm, it was.” She nodded. “He was of no threat to me back then, nor was he now, just surprised to see me I think.”

“Were you a rogue the last time you saw him?” Edward asked now.

She frowned at him. “Why does that matter?” she asked in return.

“I’m simply curious.” Edwards shrugged.

But she knew he wasn’t just curious, the man never did things for no reason, his questions were always thought out, even if they seemed simple. He was digging, trying to find out not only if that Alpha was from

her hock, but if he was also her rejected Mate, she wasn’t so dumb

could see his brain ticking now as he sat all the way up. “So you do actually know him and what pack

comes from.”

“I do, like I said I’ve seen him before.” She’d not lied about that.

“So, he’s from your home pack then. Your former Alpha’s son.” He nodded slowly.

“I didn’t say that,” she shook her head.

“You don’t have to; you’ve got no initiation scars. So, you’ve only ever been attached to one pack in your life,” Edward stated.

He was not so dumb, he had been making deductions about her for the past five years, and he was starting to piece things together, it seemed. “It makes no difference, Edward. I left that pack, so why would I do back?” she asked him.

“That is the question now, isn’t it. What would see you go back?…” he murmured, and she could once again see his brain ticking. “I could think of one reason and Alpha’s heir to your home pack would take an interest in you after all this time. Enough interest to have their tech department check that car company, and find the details of you,” he sighed.

“She’s his rejected Mate,” Kyan murmured.

Wynta turned her eyes on the man who snapped his mouth shut and stated a quick apology. But Edward was also looking at him as well. It seems the man was following along with Edwards’ thoughts but didn’t have the presence of mind to hold his tongue.
