Chapter 150
Chapter 150
Finn had no intention of scolding Kara. Instead, he gave his sister an affectionate look before turning to Joyce.
“Sorry, Joyce, Kara’s always been blunt and can’t lie to save her life. If she said anything that offended you, pleas don’t take it personally,” Finn said.
Joyce couldn’t help but roll her eyes at Finn calling Kara a kid..
We’re all in our twenties. Why is he still calling her a kid?‘ Joyce thought.
And saying she can’t lie is basically admitting she was just being honest, Joyce added to herself.
Finn was usually so fair, but now he was clearly taking his sister’s side, leaving Joyce at a loss for words.
She forced a faint smile that didn’t reach her
eyes.
“It’s nothing. I’m not the type to hold a grudge against little sisters,” Joyce said.
“Honestly, Kara’s straightforwardness is kind of cute. I actually find her honesty pretty charming,” Joyce added.
Even Joyce felt a little sick saying something so insincere herself.
Just then, a Clark family servant came in and invited them downstairs for dinner.
The table was already set with dishes, just waiting for them to come down.
Joyce was the first to head downstairs, using the chance to steady her nerves.
Kara snuggled up to Marina, flashing a cheeky grin.
Marina took a deep breath, saying with a resigned sigh.
“Kara, you really don’t have to go out of your way for me like this,” Marina said.
Joyce’s sarcasm barely fazed me. It was more like a gentle poke than anything/serious, Marina thought.
Kara was still planning to build her career in Vrufield, and the Milner and Gross families weren’t about to cut ties anytime
soon.
They would keep running into each other in Vrufield, so there was no need to make enemies over something like this.
Seeing the guilt in Marina’s eyes, Kara lowered her voice.
“Honestly, I didn’t offend her just for you. Marina, don’t feel guilty about it,” Kara said.
“The Gross and Milner families are rivals now, and the Milners are pretty ruthless. I’d rather have my enemies out in the
open than let them stab me in the back,” Kara a
“If the Milners and Grosses were still as close as before, my brother would’ve skinned me alive by now,” Kara said with a grin.
The Gross family might dote on their daughters, and Finn definitely spoiled Kara, but it was not like they let her run wild without any
rules.
Otherwise, who knew how messed up Kara’s sense of right and wrong
would be by now.
As they made their way downstairs, only Mila from the Gill family was in the banquet hall, greeting the guests.

Chapter 150
Zack was sitting on a nearby sofa, his face stormy and his whole vibe screaming “don’t even think about coming near me.”
Viola was sitting next to him, talking to him about something, but Zack’s face darkened and he suddenly slammed his glass
down.
The glass hit the marble table with a loud crash, shattering into pieces.
The commotion was loud enough that all the guests coming down the stairs saw everything clearly.
Mila quickly stepped in, shielding the scene from the guests.
“Mom, Zack, the guests are all here now,” Mila said.
Viola shot Zack a glare, got up from the sofa, smoothed out her dress, and put on her best ladylike smile.
“He had a bit too much to drink at lunch and still hasn’t sobered up. He’s just a little cranky, hope you don’t mind. Viola said.
The guests, of course, didn’t want to embarrass Viola, so they all chimed in with a few polite remarks.
And just like that, everyone pretended nothing had happened.
But Zack didn’t even try to get up and greet anyone. He just sat there on the sofa, looking like he couldn’t care less.
Mila stood beside him, looking exasperated.
“Zack, if you’ve got a problem, you can talk to Grandpa about it in private. With all these guests here, it’s not the time to make a scene,” Mila said.
“Let me help you up, okay?”
As she spoke, Mila reached out to help Zack to his feet, her voice gentle and full of concern.
But Zack just swatted her hand away and stood up by himself, not even sparing her a glance.
It was only the first day of their engagement, and Zack had already humiliated her in front of everyone. Mila’s cheeks burned with shame, her heart sinking.
Her relatives from the Gill family rushed over to console her, trying to ease the awkwardness.
Mila’s eyes grew red, but she quickly forced herself to smile and started greeting the guests like nothing had ever happened, hiding all traces of her embarrassment.
The guests nearby started gossiping in hushed voices.
“Mila’s life with the Clark family is going to be anything but easy,” someone murmured.
“The Gill family is really punching above their weight with the Clarks. If that Gill girl hadn’t managed to marry into the Milner family, there’s no way they’d have scored this engagement,” another guest whispered.
“But wasn’t Zack and Mila’s relationship a love match?” someone else asked.
“I doubt it was real love. More likely she’s using a baby to climb the ranks. I saw Mila at the maternity clinic last month. Bet she’s expecting,” someone whispered.
“I also heard Zack wasn’t supposed to marry her in the first place…” someone else chimed in.
Kara tsked quietly, rolling her eyes at all the gossip.
Marina looked around, but Elnora was nowhere to be found.

She started to worry and was about to call her sister when Kara tugged at her sleeve. Marina glanced up and spotted Elnora coming in from the backyard, following Evan.
With them was a strikingly handsome man.
He was dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit jacket, paired with a maroon silk shirt. Standing at around six foot three, he had long, straight legs that made him look even taller.
There was an air of effortless charm and a touch of roguishness about him.
As he chatted with Evan, his eyes kept drifting over to Elnora, those deep, flirtatious eyes practically oozing with charm.
Elnora just kept up a polite smile, her cool gaze showing a hint of distance.
Marina couldn’t shake the feeling that she’d seen this guy before, but she just couldn’t put her finger on where.
‘Is he some young man from one of those powerful families?‘ Marina wondered to herself.
She shot Kara a quick look and asked quietly, “Who is that guy?”
Kara frowned, just as confused. “He looks familiar, but I can’t for the life of me remember his name.”
Marina just stared, speechless.
At that moment, the guy who’d come in with Evan looked their way.
Spotting someone familiar, he raised his hand in greeting.
