Chapter 249
Daron spoke with a nonchalant tone, his voice betraying no emotion at all.
Elnora let out a low chuckle. ‘He just won’t admit it,‘ she thought
“Alright,” she said.

“If it works out, you’ll be the chief matchmaker for my sister and her future husband. I’ll make sure they serve you tea first at the wedding.”
Daron replied, “Sure.”
With that, he hung up, not giving Elnora a chance to say another word.
Elnora sat in her office, glanced at her phone showing the call had ended, and smirked.
She was sure that when Marina insisted on breaking off her engagement with Daron, there was no way Daron was blameless in all this.
‘He wants my sister to be the one to reach out first? Not a chance Elnora thought.
‘Not a chance,‘ she thought.
After packing up her own things, Marina made her way to Darons place to sort out his luggage for him.
After she parked in the garage, she spotted a red sports car sitting right outside Daron’s villa.
Marina stepped into the villa, feeling curious about what was going on.
As soon as she got out of the elevator, she saw Bette standing in front of the bookshelf, searching through the shelves.
Bette heard the elevator and turned to Marina, her brows furrowing as she asked with a serious tone. “What are you doing here?”
Marina hadn’t expected Bette to show up. She straightened her posture, clasped her hands in front of her, and answered quietly, “Mr. Zamora asked me to come over and help him pack his luggage.”
Bette squinted slightly, her gaze on Marina sharp and clearly annoyed.
Joyce’s voice rang out from the phone Bette was holding. “Hey, Bette, did you find it yet?”
Bette glanced away from Marina, pulled out the jewelry design book Marina had looked through that morning, and replied coolly, “Found it. Told you it’d be here.”
As she spoke, Bette shot Marina a look, her voice growing colder
“I’ve got something to handle here. I’ll talk to you later,” she said.
Bette put her phone away and turned to Marina, her voice low and firm. “Did you forget the promise you made to me back in Sicester?”
Marina met Bette’s eyes, holding her ground and refusing to back down.
“I already gave my word to Mr. Zamora. I agreed to work at Zamora Group for three months,” Marina explained.
Bette’s face was cold as she walked right up to Marina, her eyes frosty and piercing.

“Are you playing me?” Bette demanded.
Marina shook her head. “No.”
“Mr. Zamora and I are just boss and employee. Please don’t get the wrong idea, Bette, Marina said.

Bette let out a cold laugh. “Just boss and employee? Come on, do you really think I don’t know what you’re up to? You can play innocent for Daron, but drop the act with me. Get out, now!
Marina didn’t flinch at Bette’s aggressive command. She met Bette’s gaze head–on and replied calmly. “I’m just here because Mr. Zamora asked me to pack his things. If you really don’t want me here, just call Mr. Zamora. If he says I should leave, I’ll be gone in a second.”
Bette stepped in even closer. “You think I don’t dare call Daron?” she shot back.
Marina didn’t budge, holding her ground as Bette closed the distance.
“No,” Marina replied.
“I’m not chasing after Mr. Zamora, and I don’t regret ending the engagement. You really don’t need to worry Marina said calmly.
about me,
Bette let out a cold laugh. She was a bit taller than Marina, standing right in front of her, looking down with icy arrogance.
Bette pressed, “So what’s your real reason for hanging around Daron now?”
Marina replied, “No ulterior motives. I’m just following through on my agreement with Mr. Zamora.”
Bette sneered, you mean my brother’s the one who wants you here? Is Zamora Group really that desperate for people?”
Marina said, never said Zamora Group was desperate for talent”
Bette saw that Marin.
wasn’t intimidated at all. She looked down grabbed her phone, and called Daron.
Marina just stood there, calm as ever, her face unchanged.
Once the call went through, Bette stepped away from Marina and spoke in a low, serious tone.
“Daron, I’m at your place,” Bette said.
Daron sounded totally indifferent. “And?”
Bette asked, “When did you put Marina by your
side as your
assistant?”
Daron replied, his tone flat and impatient. “If it’s nothing important, I’m hanging up. I’m busy.”
Bette quickly said, “If that’s the case, I’ll send her away
then.”
Daron’s voice turned icy. “If I don’t see her at the office to pick me up this afternoon, then I’ll be all in for Grandpa’s plan to set you up with Kieran,” he warned.
He was about to hang up, but then his voice dropped, adding, “Bette, you k people.”

Bette caught the threat in Daron’s tone, her expression darkening as she snapped, “You little brat…”
Before she could finish, Daron hung up on her mid–sentence.
Clearly, Daron wasn’t giving her a chance to get a word in.
