Chapter 286
Chapter 286
Daron walked side by side with Howard.

They’d been buddies since childhood, and even though Howard had gone overseas for a while, they’d always stayed in touch.
Howard hadn’t had an easy road to get where he was now.
Daron knew full well why Howard had asked him out for a round of golf today.
Howard was trying to get Daron on his team.
Even if he didn’t, thanks to their childhood bond, Daron would never support any of Howard’s other cousins.
But getting mixed up with the Milner Family was no easy ride.
Now that they were adults, everyone had their own plans. It wasn’t like when they were kids, when loyalty was everything.
Daron didn’t answer Howard’s question. Instead, he glanced toward the entrance of the golf course and asked in a calm voice, “Why isn’t Finn here yet?”
Howard kept his smile and replied calmly, “Finn’s on his way. He texted me when he left. Probably just stuck in traffic right
now.”
Howard didn’t push the topic any further, but his gaze grew a little somber.
He got why Daron was dodging this, but after everything they had been through all these years, Howard thought Daron should be standing by him, not just sitting on the fence because he was teamed up with his cousins for a few years.
Marina walked behind Joyce as they made their way onto the golf course.
The caddy set up Joyce’s ball and pulled a club from the bag for her.
Joyce took the club, her gaze settling on Marina as she smiled and spoke.
“Wow, you’ve never even played golf before? The Finley family really has fallen hard. And you actually think you can set your sights on Daron? Do you even know your place?” Joyce sneered.
Marina didn’t bat an eye, calmly took a golf club from another caddy, and looked up at Joyce with a faint smile.
“Whether I’m worthy of him isn’t up to you, Ms. Milner. If you were really all that, you wouldn’t have spent years trailing after Mr. Zamora and still end up with less than I’ve achieved in just a few months back in Vrufield, Marina shot back.
Joyce’s hand clenched around the club, but when she swung, Marina totally rattled her. She whitted the shot and didn’t even hit the ball.
Everyone froze for a second, the awkwardness thick enough to cut with a knife.
Marina just watched her coolly, lips curling into a subtle smirk.
Joyce caught the subtle mockery in Marina’s eyes, her face darkening as she snapped, “Don’t get cocky just yet. Daron’s only treating you special right now because you bruised his ego when you dumped him. Now he’s just trying to get a little payback and restore his pride in front of you.”
“Once you fall for him, he’ll just walk away. That’s the twisted game men like him play. Don’t flatter yourself into thinking

you’re his unattainable dream girl,” Joyce sneered.

“Guys like Daron only care about marrying someone from the right family, status, background, all that,” Joyce added coldly.
As Joyce spoke, she took another swing. The ball didn’t get far at all, but she shot Marina a smug grin and made a “go ahead”
gesture.
The caddy teed up another ball and waved Marina over.
Just because she had never done it herself didn’t mean she didn’t know how it worked.
Marina might not have played golf before, but she’d watched enough on TV to get the gist.
As Marina swung the club, Joyce couldn’t help but burst out laughing, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Ms. Finley, your stance is all wrong, and your moves are anything but standard. Honestly, you look so awkward, like some kind of long–armed monkey trying to play golf,” Joyce taunted.
The two caddies standing nearby didn’t dare make a sound, afraid to get involved.
After all, one was the Milner Family’s heiress, and the other was Daron’s guest, neither was someone they could afford to
cross.
With Joyce keeping quiet, the caddies didn’t dare offer Marina any tips either.
Joyce expected Marina to squirm after her jab, but Marina didn’t even flinch. She shot Joyce a cool, confident smile and said, “I told you right from the start I’ve never played before. Weren’t you the one bragging about teaching me, Ms. Milner?
“But clearly, you’re not interested in helping at all. Looks like I’ll just have to ask Daron to show me the ropes instead.”
With that, Marina started to walk off with the golf club.
Joyce suddenly grabbed her hand, her expression souring as she said coldly, “You’re just looking for an excuse to cling to
Daron.”
Marina just kept smiling, her eyes twinkling with playful confidence.
“Obviously. With a golden opportunity like this, why wouldn’t I go for it?” she shot back.
Joyce drew in a sharp breath, squeezing Marina’s hand with all her strength.
Marina looked at her, a playful glint in her eyes. “What’s wrong, Ms. Milner? Changed your mind? Or are you actually going
to teach me now?”
Joyce’s face darkened. Not wanting Marina to run off to Daron, she snapped, “Fine, I’ll teach you. But honestly, you’re not the golfing type
Marina just smiled, lips quirking with playful confidence. “How do you know I’m not cut out for it if you don’t even give me
a chance?”
Joyce bit back her irritation. Howard had promised to mention the family alliance to Daron, so there was no way she could let Marina make a move on him right now.
She had no choice but to teach Marina how to play, even though she was clearly annoyed.
Joyce was obviously trying to make Marina look bad, deliberately leaving out key steps and making sure her comments were
